A hand holds a 16kg REP Fitness Adjustable Kettlebell.

There’s plenty of equipment to choose from when outfitting your home or garage gym, and kettlebells are one of the most popular choices for many gym owners. They can be used to improve your strength, power, cardiovascular system, balance, and more, helping you improve nearly all aspects of your health and fitness.

The only problem? Like everything else, kettlebells take up space, and if you’ve already got a gym full of the best dumbbells, barbells, and squat racks, you may find yourself running out of space and hesitant to add something new to the collection.

That’s where adjustable kettlebells come in, providing even greater versatility than regular kettlebells while saving space, much like the best adjustable dumbbells. In this REP Fitness Adjustable Kettlebell review, I’m going to break down all of the details you need to know about this high-quality tool, to help you decide if this is worth adding to your collection.

Hands-On Testing From GGR’s Founder

All of the GGR’s testers, which include certified personal trainers, gym owners, CrossFit enthusiasts, and even an Olympian, have extensive experience testing all kinds of fitness equipment.

However, no one on our team has more experience than GGR’s founder himself, Cooper “Coop” Mitchell, who tested this adjustable kettlebell for us. Coop has tried countless kettlebells over the years, so he understands what to look for and how a good kettlebell should be made.

I’m basing this review on Coop’s product testing notes and scoring, which used our equipment testing methodology to assign a score to the most important parts of this kettlebell, including:

  • Construction
  • Durability
  • Adjustability
  • Ergonomics

A Quick Look at the REP Fitness Adjustable Kettlebell

REP Fitness has become one of the biggest names in the fitness equipment market, and for good reason—as a company, REP continues to make fantastic products that are built to last, without breaking the bank.

While most people think of barbells and dumbbells when talking about strength training, kettlebells are another great option to use in your training when you want to mix things up.

The REP Fitness Adjustable Kettlebell, available in three sizes, is designed to look and feel nearly identical to a traditional kettlebell. Many adjustable kettlebells feature unique shapes that feel a bit different than standard kettlebells or use plate-loaded adjustments, like the options from Ironmaster and Titan Fitness. REP specifically designed this kettlebell to look and feel like a standard kettlebell. Bells of Steel offers an adjustable kettlebell with a similar shape, but you need to take it apart with an Allen wrench, while REP uses a push-and-twist adjustment mechanism.

RELATED: Adjustable Kettlebell vs Standard

Each variation can be adjusted to five different weight increments, so you’re getting five kettlebells in one, for a total cost of $149.99 to $209.99 depending on the option you choose.

Whether you’re performing kettlebell swings, snatches, presses, or any other kettlebell training exercises, these are great tools to get the job done.

Before You Buy

  • This is meant to look, feel, and function just like a regular kettlebell.
  • You can choose from one of three options, which include both kilogram and pound measurements.
  • The rubber bottom is a nice upgrade that provides additional protection for both your kettlebell and flooring.

Is the REP Fitness Adjustable Kettlebell Worth It?

While the REP Fitness Adjustable Kettlebell is priced to fit most budgets at around $150 to $200, especially as it replaces five standard kettlebells, we always recommend plenty of research before purchasing any new gym equipment.

Workout Experience With the REP Fitness Adjustable Kettlebell

Coop’s been testing products since he started Garage Gym Reviews in 2014, and has tried many of the top kettlebells on the market. While I haven’t personally tried the REP kettlebells yet, I’ve used kettlebells countless times when I worked as a personal trainer in various gyms for 6 years, so I understand how they’re supposed to feel and function when performing traditional kettlebell exercises.

Our tester doing a mid overhead press with the REP Fitness Adjustable Kettlebell.

Coop extensively tested this kettlebell, using it for a variety of workouts, testing the adjustment mechanism, and comparing it to other adjustable kettlebells. We’ll get into the specific details and ratings for each category, but overall, Coop was very impressed, saying this looks and feels nearly identical to a regular kettlebell.

There’s a reason this kettlebell won the editor’s choice award in our guide to the best adjustable kettlebells.

Construction and Durability

When it comes to construction and durability, we’re testing how well a product is built and how long it should last. This kettlebell scored well, earning a 4.5-out-of-5-star rating from Coop.

The kettlebell is cast iron with a powder-coated metal shell, which helps provide additional grip while training. The removable weights are inside the body of the kettlebell, so at any weight, the shape and feel will be the same. All removable weights are secured by a nylon thermoplastic fastener, which REP claims prevents any movement or clanging during training, which Coop found to be true.

RELATED: Upper-Body Kettlebell Workout

Coop did mention that he felt the plastic gearing in the adjustment mechanism may wear down over time, but that it still felt pretty durable overall, which is why he scored this category so well.

Finally, the bottom is rubber and offers extra floor protection, which is a nice touch for those of us training in our homes rather than on commercial gym flooring.

Adjustment Speed

As for the adjustment speed, Coop rated this 5 out of 5. He said the mechanism is simple and quick, and is easily adjusted by pushing and twisting the dial on top. The adjustment mechanism also shows the kettlebell weight increments, so it’s quick and easy to find the exact weight you need.

Weight Range

The REP Fitness Adjustable Kettlebell is available in three different weight options, including two that use kilograms and one option that uses pounds, providing an option for most users.

The kilogram options range from 8 to 16 kilograms and 16 to 24 kilograms, while the third option ranges from 20 to 40 pounds. All three options have five weight increments, so you’re getting five kettlebells in one, providing tremendous versatility.

RELATED: Best Kettlebell Strength Workouts

Overall, these kettlebells earn a 5-out-of-5-star rating for the weight range.

Ergonomics

Ergonomics matter, and while manufacturers like BowFlex and PowerBlock make adjustable kettlebells in different shapes, many prefer the traditional, competition-style shape. REP carefully designed the shape, grip, materials, and movement-proof adjustment mechanism to make this feel just like the real thing.

A REP Fitness Adjustable Kettlebell is held next to a weight plate.

When performing a tough workout, like this kettlebell leg workout, you want a kettlebell handle that feels good in your hand, and this passes with flying colors.

Coop scored this a 5 out of 5 for ergonomics, saying, “If you closed your eyes, you wouldn’t know it was adjustable. It feels just like a regular kettlebell, and is quiet with no rattling. The handle feels exactly like a cast iron kettlebell with good texture. I love it.”

REP Fitness Adjustable Kettlebell vs PowerBlock Adjustable Kettlebell

PowerBlock Adjustable Kettlebell

PowerBlock Adjustable Kettlebell

GGR Score: 4.1

Product Highlights

  • Ultra-compact build replaces 4 kettlebells.

  • Magnetic pin ensures weight stays put during exercise.

  • Steel exterior features a powder-coated finish similar to standard cast iron bells.

  • Change weight in seconds thanks to the convenient magnetic pin system.

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Very compact and easy to store
  • Fast weight changes using magnetic pin
  • Comfortable handle with solid grip
  • Heavy max weight of up to 62 pounds

Cons

  • Cowbell shape can feel awkward in certain movements
  • Stickered weight indications can wear and peel over time
  • Pricey compared to other adjustable kettlebells

Bottom Line

The Powerblock Adjustable Kettlebell delivers a compact footprint and quick adjustments, making it a great pick for tight training spaces. The brand offers this bell in 35-pound and 62-pound totals, too, giving you some options in terms of your working weight range.

While the REP Fitness Adjustable Kettlebell may be the best option if you’re looking to mimic a traditional kettlebell experience, it’s certainly not the only option.

Another great option is the PowerBlock Adjustable Kettlebell, and the main difference is the shape. Unlike REP, PowerBlock has given its kettlebell more of a cowbell-style design, meant to save space.

It doesn’t feel exactly like a regular kettlebell, but our tester really enjoyed the flat shape, saying, “Most kettlebells are spherical whereas this is relatively flat, making it more comfortable to rest on an arm or shoulder when performing certain exercises. The spherical ones sometimes can create discomfort from a more pinpoint pressure when against the body.”

Overall, the REP adjustable kettlebell is best for those who want the round shape, while the PowerBlock adjustable kettlebell is better for those who want a flat, space-saving design that still feels very comfortable to use.

Customer Reviews

This kettlebell has an average rating of 4.9 on REP’s website with 193 reviews at the time of writing, and a 4.7 rating on Amazon with 67 reviews.

Most customers are quite happy, saying they love the look, feel, and adjustment mechanism.

Final Verdict of Our REP Fitness Adjustable Kettlebell Review

If you’re looking for an adjustable kettlebell that looks and feels nearly identical to a competition kettlebell, it’s hard to beat REP. No matter which weight you choose, you’re getting five kettlebells in one, the quality is high, and the lifetime warranty protects you against accidents.

This is a fantastic choice for home gym owners, and Coop even went so far as to say these are the best value for the quality and the best adjustable kettlebells he’s ever used.

REP Fitness Adjustable Kettlebell: FAQs

Do adjustable kettlebells work?

Yes, a well-designed adjustable kettlebell, like the one from REP Fitness, is built to function exactly like a normal kettlebell.

How do I change the weight on my adjustable kettlebell?

Each brand uses different adjustment mechanisms and may use a pin system, push and twist, or even removable weight plates. There are many ways to change the weight on an adjustable kettlebell, so you’ll need to consult the manufacturer.

What is the disadvantage of an adjustable kettlebell?

Depending on the design, the adjustment mechanism may wear down or break over time, especially if you’re regularly dropping it or otherwise handling it roughly. Some adjustable kettlebells also use unique shapes that don’t feel like a standard kettlebell, so you may find the feel is different than you’re used to.
