Aviron bike review first look cover image

If you’re looking for the best exercise bike on the market, you’re in the right place. Your friends at Garage Gym Reviews are committed to testing and reviewing strength and conditioning equipment specifically designed (and priced) for home gyms so you can squash doubts about making an investment into your health and fitness goals.

In this Aviron Bike review, we’re taking a first look at the new Aviron Fit Bike. It launched in August 2024 and we’re excited to get our hands (and feet) on this machine.

Over Two Dozen Bikes Tested and Reviewed

Garage Gym Reviews expert testers are not just a group of fitness junkies and gym bros. We’re a group of fitness industry professionals ranging from competitive and Olympic-level athletes to certified personal trainers and gym owners.

For this Aviron Bike review, we’re providing a first look at the specs and our first impressions. Once our expert testers have completed our extensive testing protocol—-which includes multiple testers, multiple rounds of workouts, and scoring—we will update our review to reflect our experience. You can expect to see scoring from a 1- to 5-star scale in a variety of categories including price, durability, adjustments, and tech capabilities.

Bottom Line

If you’re looking for an exercise bike that offers more than instructor-led studio classes, the Aviron Fit Bike might be your answer. It’s a stationary bike that rides like a real bicycle because the pedals and flywheel function independently from one another, making it possible to make micro adjustments to speed and coast without losing flywheel momentum. Plus, Aviron’s programming is known for its interactive and competitive games that keep home exercisers more engaged than traditional classes.

A Quick Look at the Aviron Fit Bike

You may be familiar with the Aviron brand for its rowing machines and gamified workout programming, but the brand just entered into a new fitness equipment realm: indoor studio bikes.

Our team is very familiar with the brand as we’ve tested, scored, and reviewed the Aviron Impact Series, Aviron Strong Series, and the Aviron Go Rower. Our rowing experience has been solid and we even selected the Aviron Strong Series rower as one of our best rowing machines.

That said, we expect nothing short of durable and fun when it comes to testing the Aviron Fit Bike.

Before You Buy

  • You can create unlimited profiles on the Aviron Family membership, which is $288 for an annual subscription or $29 for a monthly subscription.
  • The Aviron Fit Bike is an HSA/FSA-eligible purchase with TrueMed.
  • Aviron offers a 30-day risk-free trial.

Is the Aviron Fit Bike Worth It?

The Aviron Fit Bike is new, features tons of tech, and has endless game-like workouts to choose from. Whether you’re a beginner or have been working out for a long time, the races, gamified workouts, guided programs, and competitive leaderboards are worth it for anyone who needs extra motivation to workout at home.

The Aviron Fit Bike retails for $2,399 and currently has a promotional introductory price tag of $1,999. You’ll still need to account for an additional $29 per month for the Aviron programming to get the full experience.

We’ve tested bikes in this price range including the king of indoor cycling, the Peloton Bike, which we’ll have a side-by-side comparison of later in this review. However, that doesn’t mean that a price tag over $2,000 doesn’t phase us. We know that’s not a small price to pay, but we also have many reasons why the Aviron Fit Bike might be the superior choice.

First Impressions With The Aviron Fit Bike

If you’ve ever hopped on a studio bike or taken a spin class, you may know that it doesn’t feel exactly like a regular bike on the road. You can’t coast or make minor fluctuations to your speed and cadence because traditional studio bikes have a fixed wheel, which means that the pedals are synchronized with the flywheel.

What makes the Aviron Fit Bike different is the “freewheel” design. This makes the pedals independent of the flywheel and will make workouts feel more like riding a real bike (and allow you to coast without losing flywheel momentum).

We’re excited to test this bicycle-style stationary bike and will keep this review updated once we’ve completed our testing. Our team is impressed with the first look at this Aviron bike and is looking forward to immersive and high-quality workouts.

Footprint and Portability

The Aviron Fit Bike will be suitable for small spaces with a slim footprint of 3.5 feet long and 2 feet wide. It’s 139 pounds and features transport wheels on the front end of the bike, but you can swap them to the back of the bike if you prefer. While 139 pounds is certainly not light, we don’t see this being a problem for most home gym owners.

Durability and Construction

Two features our testers look for in a durable exercise bike: It doesn’t shake while riding and offers a maximum user weight of at least 275 pounds. While we haven’t taken the Aviron for a ride yet, we can safely say there are many specs indicating the Fit Bike is built with durability in mind.

First, the Aviron Fit Bike has an inclusive 350-pound user weight capacity. Second, it has a rear-flywheel design that will be more resistant to rust or water damage because you won’t be sweating or dripping water over the flywheel after every sip from your water bottle.

Plus, the flywheel has a unique freewheel design. The pedals and flywheel operate independently of each other for maximum control, which we anticipate translating to an ultra smooth ride. This is important because any unnecessary shaking or rocking creates more wear and tear to the frame and moving parts of any cardio machine.

Another feature on the flywheel is the electromagnetic resistance, which is different from traditional magnetic resistance with physical magnets. Instead, an electromagnetic current can be customized by the touch of a button. This leads to instant resistance adjustment and eliminates the need for emergency brakes.

The Fit Bike also features a commercial-grade chain (versus a nylon belt) inside the shrouding in the center of the bike, which is reliable, and provides the feel of riding an outdoor bike. It’s constructed from 4-inch reinforced steel uprights and features tempered glass on the 22-inch touchscreen display.

Adjustments and Ergonomics

Aviron’s user height recommendations for the Fit Bike range from folks at 5 feet, 1 inch to 6 feet, 8 inches. Not only can it accommodate a wide range of user heights, we like that the Aviron Fit Bike features a low frame for easy access on and off the bike.

Plus, there are four adjustments on the seat (up, down, forward, and back) and six adjustments on the handlebar position (up, down, foreword, back, and angled up or down).

With a standard purchase, you’ll get pedals with adjustable foot cages that allow you to wear the best cross training shoes. Or you can upgrade to a premium package that comes with clip-in-style SPD pedals, exercise mat, dumbbells, remote, and an extra-cushioned seat for an additional $350.

Technology and Conveniences

We can’t yet speak in detail about the programming, but we have showcased how much fun the games are in our Aviron App review. Just like the rowing workouts on Aviron rowing machines, the Aviron Fit Bike also features games, Power Play, Pros vs Joes, coached programs, scenic rides, and third-party entertainment options.

You’ll also be able to swivel and tilt the screen to follow along with coached strength training classes and full-body workouts off the bike. Plus, you can pair the bike with Bluetooth heart rate monitors and see your heart rate on the screen in addition to other metrics like calories, output, cadence, split time, and speed.

When you want a break from games, you can stream your favorite shows and movies while you work out. You can login to your existing accounts on apps like Netflix, Hulu, Disney+, Prime Video, Youtube, and Spotify.

The Aviron Fit Bike needs a WiFi connection to use the Aviron membership, or you can use an Ethernet cable and connect to the back of the touchscreen display. We think having both options is ideal.

The Aviron Family membership is $288 if you sign up for annual billing and $29 per month if you are billed monthly. The Aviron Family membership allows you to have unlimited profiles on one machine, which we think is an excellent feature for one household.

Aviron Fit Bike vs Peloton Bike+

Peloton Bike+

Product Highlights

  • Top-notch immersive training
  • Live classes and leaderboards
  • Requires monthly subscription

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Rotating screen to easily transition between workout modalities
  • Compact footprint
  • 360-degree sound
  • Quiet
  • Top-of-the-line technology features
  • Comfortable
  • Free delivery

Cons

  • Disappointing warranty
  • Subscription is required to use bike
  • Expensive

Bottom Line

The Peloton Bike+ is a piece of cardio equipment that brings training from home to a new level. With exclusive access to countless workouts and virtual scenery, this bike could be a worthy investment for anyone who has the means. The Peloton Bike+ also makes it easy to stay on track with your fitness goals as users can easily pair their Apple Watch to share metrics. In fact, users can just tap their Apple Watch to the Bike+ screen to instantly track cycling workouts. If you’re someone who loves to analyze workout stats, these features make it seamless.

The Aviron Fit Bike and Peloton Bike+ are comparable in price, footprint, screen size, and range of resistance. While both machines offer a wide range of resistance, the Peloton has a front-drive flywheel that is directly linked to the pedals while the Aviron Fit has a rear-drive flywheel independent of the pedals.

The Fit Bike offers a heavier weight capacity—which is a major factor to longevity and durability—but if you’re rather short, the Peloton Bike+ might be a better choice since it’s suitable for folks 4 feet and 11 inches tall.

When deciding between these two pieces of equipment, you’ll also have to consider what kind of programming you prefer. Would you rather have an interactive video game-style workout or a boutique studio-style class? There is also a difference in the monthly subscription fees for both brands. Peloton is $44 per month and Aviron is $29 per month. Aviron offers a slight price break if you sign up for annual billing, while Peloton does not offer a price break.

Aviron Bike: FAQs

Is the Aviron membership worth it?

For $29 per month (or less if you sign up for annual billing), we think it’s a worthy investment and less expensive than a gym membership or individual cycling classes.

Does Aviron work without membership?

Aviron machines can be used without a membership in the “just row” or “just bike” mode, but you’ll get most out of the machine if you sign up for the Aviron membership.

Can you watch TV on an Aviron rower?

The Aviron Strong Rower and Aviron Fit Bike both allow you stream third-party entertainment. Apps like Netflix and Hulu are integrated on the touchscreen display.
