Which Sole Treadmill Should You Buy?
The Sole Fitness treadmills have many similar specs and features. However, there are still some key differences between the models that will affect your decision.
There are two main groupings for Sole Fitness treadmills: folding and non-folding. The folding models include the F63, F65, F80, F85, and F89.

Sole created the F63 and F65 to offer value to their customers. Both models cost less than $1,500. They have long running decks (60 inches) and the same motor size (3.0 HP).
The Sole F80 and F85 are the original Sole treadmills. They’ve been on the market and redesigned with modern features for over 20 years. Two of the newest features on both include upgraded touchscreen displays. They offer longer, more robust warranties than the F65 or F63.
Sole Fitness has two non-folding treadmills: the TT8 and ST90. They both have 60-inch running decks and 15.6-inch touchscreen monitors. The Sole ST90 is the only slat-belt treadmill from Sole Fitness and the only treadmill in the whole lineup that doesn’t have a lifetime warranty.
The Sole TT8 is considered a light commercial treadmill. However, the specs are not far off from the F85. The main difference is that the TT8 has a higher weight capacity of 400 pounds versus the 375-pound weight capacity of the F85.
The F89 is the newest Sole treadmill. It’s also similar to the F85 but has a 21.5-inch touchscreen monitor. The F85 has a 15.6-inch touchscreen display.

What the Sole F80 lacks in technology, it more than makes up for in durability and performance. With a 3.5 horsepower motor and a 60 inch long running deck, the Sole F80 is a great option for dedicated endurance athletes.
The Sole F80 is one of the original models introduced by Sole Fitness. It’s our favorite Sole treadmill because it has a high user weight capacity of 350 pounds, a powerful 3.5 HP motor, and comes with 10 preset programs. Plus, you can’t beat the lifetime frame and motor warranty, which earned 5 out of 5 stars from our product testers. It’s one of the best treadmill warranties we’ve come across.
Unlike the best treadmills with TV screens, though, the F80’s monitor doesn’t offer virtual classes. We only rated its tech capabilities 3 out of 5 stars. However, we do like that it has mirroring capabilities, meaning you can play an app from your phone on the screen. You can also rest a tablet on the device holder to stream classes from the Sole+ mobile app.
The F80 has the conveniences we look for in a high-quality treadmill, like cooling fans, Bluetooth speakers, and a USB charging port. Sole claims that their Cushion Flex Whisper Deck helps reduce impact by up to 40%, but our product tester didn’t notice a big difference in the cushioning between the F80 and other treadmill models.
“I didn’t really feel uncomfortable while running on it, but I also didn’t feel like the cushioning was any better than other treadmills I’ve used,” said Lindsay Scheele, a certified personal trainer and expert GGR product tester. She rated the F80’s ergonomics 4 out of 5 stars.

The Sole F63 is a sturdy, solid, powder-coated steel-framed treadmill with folding capabilities. It’s the brand’s most affordable treadmill at about $1,200. Kate Meier, GGR’s senior director of content and a certified personal trainer, gave it 4.5 out of 5 stars for value, noting, “For the price point, you get a lot for your money in terms of conveniences.”

Although the Sole F63 doesn’t have a built-in touchscreen, you can use the tablet holder to stream fitness apps or watch shows from a phone or tablet. The 6.5-inch LCD display shows speed, incline, time, distance, calories, pulse, and pace. We like the quarter-mile track and peak and valley graphs associated with some of the preset programs hardwired into the machine. Also on the console is a cooling fan and built-in speakers to play music from your own device.
Lindsay Scheele, the lead reviewer for our Garage Gym Reviews Everything YouTube Channel, gave the F63 a near-perfect score of 4.8 out of 5 stars for conveniences. The only reason she didn’t award it 5 stars is that the cooling fan wasn’t very strong. “I’m a bit short at five feet four inches, and the fan is positioned too high to have any significant effect on me,” she added.
The Sole F63 has a 3.0 HP motor, which is where we suggest starting for runners. Anything below 3.0 HP won’t give you enough power for running or HIIT treadmill workouts. However, we only rated it 4 out of 5 stars for stability and durability.
“This treadmill does wobble a bit if you’re running heavily on it,” Lindsay noted. “I think some shaking is to be expected at its price point, but it’s something to be aware of if you plan on using it for long-distance running.”

The Sole F65 is a high-quality treadmill. With a powerful motor, top speed at 12 mph and 15 levels of incline, it's a great purchase for runners.
If you’re looking to experience the benefits of walking on a treadmill, the Sole F65 could be a good choice. We haven’t tested this model yet, but it shares many of the same features as the F63. Our product tester Lindsay Scheele, CPT, has spent several hours on the F63 and used her experience to assess the F65.
The main difference is the width of the running deck. The F65’s is 22 inches, while the F63’s is 20 inches. “A roomier deck means you don’t have to worry about hitting the side rails as you run,” she pointed out.
While we like the wider deck, we only gave the Sole F65 3 out of 5 stars for footprint and portability. The F65 is foldable and has transport wheels, but it weighs 267 pounds. Lindsay says she had trouble moving the F63 around, and that model weighs about 40 pounds less.
The Sole F65 has a more powerful 3.25 HP motor, whereas the F63 has a 3.0 HP motor. In our experience testing dozens of treadmills, motors at this level and above are the most durable.

With a 4.0 HP motor, the F85 is one of the most durable foldable treadmills on the market. With a large cushioned running surface, interactive display, WiFi capabilities and a fancy console with fans and speakers, the F85 is a fantastic choice for anyone looking to enhance their cardio workouts.
Many of the compact treadmills are inferior to their larger counterparts. They either have short decks that don’t work well for people with long strides, or sacrifice other components like a large, high-quality display. The F85 offers several high-quality features while still being compact enough to fit in small spaces.
The F85 also folds to save space. We haven’t tested this model yet, but based on our experience with other Sole treadmills, we’re confident that the F85’s gas-shock folding mechanism is easy and safe to use. In addition, the treadmill has two transport wheels and ways less than 300 pounds. Most healthy, able-bodied individuals should be able to move the treadmill around when needed. We rate it 3.5 out of 5 stars for portability.
The Sole F85’s running deck is 60 inches long and 22 inches wide—roomy enough to accommodate runners of various sizes. It comes with 10 preset programs. If you want more workout variety, you can access the Sole+ mobile app for guided workouts or use your own device to follow along with a class from one of the best running apps.
At close to $2,500, though, we do wish the F85 had built-in, instructor-led workouts. Our reviewers only gave it 3 out of 5 stars for programming.
This treadmill is one of only two in the Sole lineup that offers six decline levels in addition to 15 incline levels. We love when treadmills offer both incline and decline options because you can train muscle groups that may otherwise be neglected. For this reason, the Sole F85 earned 4.5 out of 5 stars for customizations.

The Sole TT8 packs in incline and decline features, a powerful motor, and heavy-duty components for serious runners or multi-user households. It’s not compact, but it’s a workhorse.
When we evaluate the best treadmills for tall runners, we look for running decks that are at least 55 inches long. The Sole TT8 boasts a 60-inch-long running deck, making it ideal for tall individuals. The deck is also extra roomy at 22 inches wide, so people with larger frames should have enough room to move comfortably.
Lindsay Scheele, a certified personal trainer and GGR’s lead product tester, tried the TT8 for several workouts. She had a good experience with the treadmill but ultimately scored it 3.5 out of 5 stars for workout performance and 3 out of 5 stars for programming.
“My run felt smooth, but it took me a while to figure out how to set up the programming Sole has available,” she commented. “I also felt like the quality of the classes wasn’t as good as other workout apps. I didn’t really like the music in the classes I took, and the volume is inconsistent between classes.”
Still, there are plenty of other things to like about the Sole TT8. It has a 15.6-inch touchscreen, a powerful 4.0 HP motor, and the ability to go from a -6% decline to a 15% incline. There’s a built-in USB port and tablet holder, plus cooling fans and Bluetooth speakers.
This treadmill also has an impressive 400-pound weight capacity, so it’s suitable for a variety of people and perhaps treadmill workouts with a weighted vest, too. Lindsay appreciated the low 8-inch step-up height. She said this helps people with lower mobility step on and off the treadmill safely.

On the other hand, Lindsay noted that the deck felt firmer than other treadmills, so she ultimately gave the TT8 3.5 out of 5 stars for ergonomics.

The Sole F89 is the brand’s latest treadmill to hit the market. It offers up to a 15% incline and has all the conveniences you’d expect to find in a Sole treadmill, like water bottle holders, built-in speakers, and cooling fans. The 4.0 CP motor should be powerful enough to handle any of your hill training sessions. Plus, the motor is pretty quiet—an extra perk for those who don’t want to disrupt others in their home while working out.
“This is one of the quietest machines I’ve ever used in terms of transitioning from incline to decline levels and from slower to faster speeds,” our lead product reviewer Lindsay Scheele commented. “I didn’t hear it moving at all.”
This treadmill has the largest touchscreen monitor of all the Sole treadmills. Its 21.5-inch display provides a more immersive workout experience and a panoramic view of your progress. The F89’s WiFi and Bluetooth features also allow you to stream music from another device and sync workout data to other fitness apps. We rated this treadmill 4 out of 5 stars for its tech capabilities.

The F89 has a high weight capacity of 375 pounds. Combined with its low 8-inch step-up height and 22-inch wide running deck (versus the 20-inch width we usually see on treadmills), this helped it earn 4.5 out of 5 stars for ergonomics.
“The additional width does add extra comfort while you’re running,” Lindsay noted.
At 314 pounds, it’s one of the heaviest treadmills Sole offers. It does fold to save space, but users with mobility issues may have trouble lifting the deck. The Sole ST90 treadmill has a powerful AC motor and comfortable slat belt design for high-frequency runners.
The Sole ST90 is one of the only treadmills in the company’s lineup that doesn’t fold. If you don’t need a folding treadmill that you have to stow away after each use, this could be a good option.
The ST90 is also the only slat-belt treadmill Sole offers. Slat belts have less cushioning than traditional two-ply running belts. However, they also have thick rubber slats to help absorb the impact of running and recruit the correct muscles.
Lindsay Scheele, GGR’s lead product tester and a certified personal trainer, said the slat belt reminded her of the manual treadmills she’s tested, like the AssaultRunner Elite. However, she found that the Sole ST90 felt more comfortable. She described it as a happy medium between running on pavement and running on a super cushioned treadmill. She even called it one of her favorite treadmill decks to run on. We rated the ST90 4 out of 5 stars for ergonomics.
On the ST90, you’ll find a 15.6-inch touchscreen, a tablet holder, two water bottle holders, and Bluetooth speakers. The price point is higher than the other models, sitting at around $4,000. It does have a commercial-quality AC motor, which is typically more durable than a standard DC treadmill motor. In terms of some of the other features, though, Lindsay didn’t feel the high price tag was justified.
For example, while the ST90 integrates with the company’s Sole+ app via Bluetooth, Lindsay found the overall app experience lacking. “Unlike NordicTrack treadmills with iFIT, where the machines auto-adjust the speed and incline levels for you, you have to manually adjust the settings on the ST90 when taking a class through Sole’s app. I do wish Sole offered more of a hands-free experience,” she noted.
For this reason, we gave the ST90 a score of 3 out of 5 stars for programming.
We also don’t like that this treadmill only has a 5-year warranty on the frame and motor, unlike the other Sole treadmills that have lifetime warranties. We only rated the warranty 2 out of 5 stars.

Discontinued Sole Treadmills
The F60 and S77 are two of Sole Fitness’s recently discontinued treadmills. The F60 was a budget-friendly, compact machine most comparable to the F63. The S77 was a non-folding model similar to the TT8.

In addition, all Sole treadmills go up to 12 miles per hour and offer 15 incline levels. The F85 and TT8 also offer 6 decline options. All models except the TT8 and ST90 are foldable. The biggest differences you’ll notice are the monitors. Some Sole treadmills have touchscreen monitors, but others have LCD screens. You’ll have to determine what features matter to you most before buying your treadmill from Sole Fitness.

With the exception of the ST90, Sole Fitness offers a lifetime warranty on the frame and motor. That is above and beyond what we like to see in home treadmills, so when we notice things like this, it’s important we share them.
Sole Fitness aims to give customers more value by providing a warranty beyond manufacturing defects. According to the Sole Fitness website, the company “is one of the only companies to offer true ‘wear and tear’ coverage.” Sole Fitness expects you to use your treadmill and not be penalized if or when something needs to be fixed or replaced.
In our experience with the brand, they hold up the warranty and return policies, but you’ll have to get on the phone or send an email to start your claim. There is no live chat function on the website to get you started.
Returns
For most Sole Fitness treadmills, you’ll have a free 30-day trial to make sure you’re completely satisfied with your treadmill. You also won’t have to foot the bill for a restocking fee. This is a notable difference from other big-name fitness brands that usually put the shipping cost on you. However, Sole won’t refund you for the original shipping cost.

Sole offers a quality treadmill line in which all products are eerily similar. However, if you’re willing to spend over $1,200 on your home fitness equipment, we think Sole Fitness should be a top contender. We also appreciate the lifetime warranty on the frame that comes with all models, with the exception of the Sole ST90.
We also like Sole treadmills because you won’t be locked into just one fitness app. All Sole models also come with at least a few preset programs hardwired into the machine that do not require an internet connection.
Sole Fitness also has an app so you can collect your workout data from your treadmill sessions and share it with other apps like Apple Health, Fitbit, MapMyFitness, Facebook, and Twitter.
