Treadmills have always been a staple piece of equipment at commercial gyms, but home gym owners continue to be interested in cardio equipment more than anything else. In fact, according to our 2023 study on home gym equipment trends, treadmills are searched for more than strength training equipment.

If you’re looking to pick up one of the best treadmills for your home gym, finding the best option can be confusing. Many have similar features and designs, and we know that you’re probably not able to test all of the most popular treadmills yourself.

That’s where we come in. As fitness equipment experts, we test as many products as we can get our hands on, including the latest treadmill from ProForm, one of the most popular treadmill brands. In this ProForm Carbon Pro 2000 review, I’ll share our honest opinion of this compact treadmill based on extensive testing from our treadmill expert.

Tested by Treadmill Experts

The GGR testers have years of experience testing fitness equipment, and we’ve thoroughly tested and used over 50 treadmills, from NordicTrack to Peloton. Our team includes certified personal trainers, nutrition coaches, strength athletes, weightlifting coaches, CrossFit enthusiasts, and more.

As with all reviews, we spend plenty of time testing every feature, looking for the pros and cons, before using our fitness equipment testing methodology to calculate a final product review score. For the Carbon Pro 2000, our resident treadmill expert Lindsay Scheele, CPT, CNC, used the treadmill and carefully tested every feature.

She used her testing notes to score the treadmill in a variety of categories, including:

  • Footprint and portability
  • Durability and construction
  • Ergonomics
  • Tech capabilities

Bottom Line

The ProForm Carbon Pro 2000 is a compact, durable treadmill that’s perfectly sized for most home gyms. It features a 10″ screen and iFit compatibility, allowing users to follow over 10,000 virtual workouts.

A Quick Look at the ProForm Carbon Pro 2000

ProForm specializes in home cardio equipment, including rowers, exercise bikes, ellipticals, and treadmills. Most of the newer ProForm machines, including the new Carbon Pro 2000—not to be confused with the ProForm Pro 2000—and Carbon Pro 9000, are designed to be compatible with iFit. This streaming workout service allows users to follow trainer-led workouts at home.

With iFit, your treadmill will automatically adjust your speed and incline based on instructions from the iFit trainers, allowing you to enjoy a great workout without messing with the settings mid-run.

We’ve already covered the company’s most affordable treadmill in our ProForm Carbon TLX review, and today, we’ll look at one of the newer models, which has upgraded most of the features from the TLX.

Lindsay Scheele, CPT, moving the ProForm Carbon Pro 2000 treadmill

The Carbon Pro 2000 treadmill is compact enough to fit in most home gyms, easily folds for storage, and features a lightweight design with built-in wheels for portability. At under $2,000, this treadmill sits right in the middle of the pack. It’s not the most luxurious treadmill we’ve ever tested, but this is a great price, considering how many features are included.

Before You Buy

  • The ProForm Carbon Pro 2000 has incline settings from 0-12% but no decline settings.
  • The 10” HD touchscreen is compatible with iFit, but our tester found that it wasn’t the most responsive touchscreen she’s ever used.
  • The built-in cushioning results in a pleasant running experience, and the treadmill feels very durable, with very little wobbling or shaking during use.

ProForm Carbon Pro 2000 Video Review

Is the ProForm Carbon Pro 2000 Worth It?

If you’re looking for a challenging indoor workout, especially when the weather doesn’t permit outdoor running, treadmills have been shown1 to provide similar physical fitness and weight loss benefits as outdoor running.

However, they aren’t cheap, so it’s important to make sure you’re choosing the right one before you make a purchasing decision. Here’s who we think should consider buying the Carbon Pro 2000.

Great for

  • Home gym owners who need a fairly compact treadmill
  • Those who don’t require decline settings
  • Anyone who loves iFit programming and virtual workouts

Not recommended for

  • People who don’t plan on using iFit
  • Those who prefer a larger touchscreen
  • Anyone on a tight budget

Experience Using the ProForm Carbon Pro 2000

Lindsay Scheele, CPT, CNC, the face of our Garage Gym Reviews Everything YouTube channel, spent plenty of time testing this treadmill for an upcoming video review. She ran, walked, tried the iFit classes, and even moved the treadmill around to test the portability.

ProForm Carbon Pro 2000

Overall, she had very positive first impressions of the Carbon Pro 2000. She said it’s comfortable to use, feels very durable, and is lightweight for its size, making it easy to move around.

Lindsay said that when she compares this to other treadmills at a similar price point, like the Sole F65, Sole F80, or NordicTrack C1250, this feels very comparable in terms of features and quality.

She did say that if you’re not planning to use iFit, you can probably find a better deal on a treadmill without virtual workout integration. However, she said that if you’re specifically looking for a treadmill with virtual workouts around this price, this is the one she’d recommend.

Footprint and Portability

For the footprint and portability, Lindsay gave the ProForm Carbon Pro 2000 a rating of 4 out of 5.

The Carbon Pro 2000 is a folding treadmill that’s relatively light and designed to be portable. It’s easy to fold, and there are built-in transport wheels, so you can move it around when you’re not using it.

The 20-inch by 60-inch running deck should be large enough for most users, though if you’re exceptionally tall, you may need to choose something a bit larger.

Lindsay Scheele, CPT, folds a ProForm Carbon Pro 2000

If you plan on putting this in a smaller space and don’t want it to take up too much room, the ability to fold and move the treadmill is certainly a positive that we don’t always see in treadmills.

“This is a fairly light treadmill when we compare it to others with similar features,” said Lindsay. “The entire treadmill weighs less than 250 pounds, and it has wheels on the front, making it easier to maneuver. I wish it had a handlebar on the back to make it easier to grab onto, but otherwise, I don’t have any complaints.”

Durability and Construction

Lindsay was also impressed with the durability and construction, especially at this price point, and gave the Carbon Pro 2000 a 4-out-of-5-star rating.

The treadmill can deliver 3.0 horsepower and has a max speed of 12 mph, though this should be fast enough for most running and HIIT workouts.

She said that the steel frame and uprights result in a very durable treadmill. Even while pushing the 3.0 CHP motor to the limits for our testing, running, and walking at various speeds and inclines, she barely noticed any shaking or wobbling.

Of course, heavier individuals may notice more movement, but overall, this seems to be a very sturdy treadmill comparable to many of the more expensive models we’ve tested.

Ergonomics

For the ergonomics, we want to measure how good a treadmill feels during use. As someone who’s used low-end treadmills that don’t feel safe or comfortable, I know that ergonomics are a huge deal when considering a treadmill.

A person running on a ProForm Carbon Pro 2000

Lindsay gave the Carbon Pro 2000 a 3.5 out of 5 for ergonomics. The 20-inch by 60-inch deck is fairly standard-sized for this price point and should leave plenty of room for most users.

RELATED: 11 Benefits of Walking on a Treadmill

She said that while the built-in ProShox cushioning certainly helps, it’s not the best she’s ever used, and she described it as mid-level cushioning. During her testing, she directly compared the cushioning to the Sole F80 and NordicTrack T Series 10 to ensure she could provide accurate feedback and direct comparison.

The Sole F80 offers more cushioning for about $100 more, so if you’re looking for the most cushioned run, you may want to consider the Sole F80. However, compared to the NordicTrack T Series 10, the Carbon Pro 2000 had a noticeably softer landing, although that’s to be expected given that the T Series 10 is significantly cheaper.

Technology Benefits and Conveniences

On paper, the Carbon Pro 2000 is packed with great features, but we found they didn’t work quite as expected during our testing. Overall, Lindsay gave this treadmill a 3.5 out of 5 rating for technology benefits and conveniences.

Touchscreen on the ProForm Carbon Pro 2000

The main feature here is the iFit integration. When you connect your treadmill to your wi-fi network, you can choose from over 10,000 streaming workout programs and classes, providing near-endless variety for your training.

We’ll start with the touchscreen. It looks nice, but the functionality isn’t perfect. Lindsay said, “I like the size of this screen. However, the screen itself wasn’t the most responsive screen I’ve ever used. It took me a couple of swipes before the screen responded to what I wanted to see.”

RELATED: 5 Best Treadmill Workouts

The iFit integration is excellent, and Lindsay loved using it, giving both the workout experience and treadmill programming 4 out of 5 ratings. Just know that you may need to slow down your run if you need to adjust any settings via the touchscreen mid-workout. iFit also includes workouts that can be followed off the treadmill, like walking, cycling, and strength training workouts.

The treadmill has a fan, two water bottle holders, Bluetooth connectivity, a USB-C charging station, a media shelf for your smart device, and quality speakers. This means that if you’re not thrilled with the built-in screen, you can always use your own phone or tablet to watch Netflix or browse the internet while you train.

Control panel on a ProForm Carbon Pro 2000

One notable missing feature is a built-in heart rate monitor. You can always use a Bluetooth heart rate monitor, but there aren’t any sensors built into the handles, which we see on many higher-end devices.

Lastly, to take full advantage of iFit’s ActivePulse feature, which can adjust your treadmill settings to keep your heart rate in a specific zone, you’ll need to wear a heart rate monitor and sync it with the treadmill.

  • 300-lb weight capacity

  • Cushioned running deck
  • iFIT-enabled
  • Foldable

Cons

  • Only a 1-year parts warranty
  • No touchscreen display
  • Heavy 249-pound frame can be difficult to move for some

Bottom Line

The ProForm Carbon TLX is an affordable folding treadmill that would be suitable for a small space. It's durable, with a 300-pound weight capacity and 3.0 CHP motor, plus it offers up to 12% incline. Also take advantage of iFIT for virtual classes on this machine.

If you’re interested in ProForm, you may also be considering the Carbon TLX, a similar treadmill that costs about $600 more than the Carbon Pro 2000–although we’re not sure why. When we originally reviewed the TLX, it was only $999, making it an affordable alternative, but ProForm seems to have raised the price.

The two treadmills are nearly identical, with the same tread belt size and height, length, and width all within one inch of each other. However, the TLX has a lower weight capacity than the Carbon Pro 2000 and a smaller, older screen.

Both treadmills are iFit-enabled, although, with the TLX, you’ll need to use your tablet or phone to stream classes, as the screen doesn’t have video capabilities.

At the current price points, the Carbon Pro 2000 is the obvious choice, as it’s more affordable, has a better screen, and has a higher weight capacity. It’s basically the TLX with some nice upgrades. However, if the TLX returns to its $999 price (which may have been a promotional rate, but we aren’t sure), it’s certainly a strong alternative if you want to save some money and don’t need the built-in screen.

Customer Experience

The ProForm customer experience earns a 4-out-of-5-star rating. If you need help at any time, there’s an AI-powered chat box on the website that can try to answer your questions immediately.

If you need further assistance (or prefer to speak with a human), you can also call ProForm or send them an email.

Finally, ProForm offers a 10-year frame warranty, a 2-year parts warranty, a 1-year tablet warranty for the screen, and a 1-year labor warranty. We’d love to see slightly longer warranties, as some of the best options have 15-year warranties, but this is still pretty good, especially for the price.

Ordering the ProForm Carbon Pro 2000

Customer Reviews

At the time of writing, we can’t find any customer reviews of the ProForm Carbon Pro 2000, as ProForm doesn’t allow customer reviews on the website, and it’s not listed on Amazon. We’ll update this section in the future if we see any customer reviews.

Final Verdict of Our ProForm Carbon Pro 2000 Treadmill Review

If you’re looking for an affordable, compact treadmill that will fit in most home gyms, the ProForm Carbon Pro 2000 is a great choice. The built-in touchscreen allows you to follow iFit workouts, there are plenty of speed and incline settings, and the treadmill feels very durable and stable.

It’s not the most cushioned treadmill we’ve ever used, but it’s similar to many others at similar price points. If you want the best possible cushioning, you may want to spend more on a higher-end treadmill, but we think most users will love having the Carbon Pro 2000 in their homes.

  • The Carbon Pro 2000 is portable, foldable, and durable, with a 350-lb weight capacity.
  • The 10” Smart HD touchscreen makes it easy to follow virtual workouts, though it’s not the most responsive screen we’ve tested.
  • Unless you’re significantly taller than the average person, the running surface should provide plenty of space to perform any kind of training comfortably.
