If you’re looking to get a better picture of your nutrition on a day-to-day basis, there are plenty of great calorie counting apps to choose from. While they all help track your food intake, there are quite a few differences that can make choosing the right one difficult.
These days, the power of AI is everywhere, and calorie counter apps are no exception, with many of them offering convenient features like AI-powered food logging, meal planning, nutrition adjustments, and more. One such app is Fitia, an AI-powered app designed to make planning your meals and tracking your food a breeze.
Our expert tester used Fitia for a while to try out all of the features, and I also downloaded the app myself to check out the onboarding process and user interface. In this Fitia app review, I’ll share the pros, cons, and everything else you need to know to decide if this nutrition app is right for you.

Our Fitia App Review, Summarized
Fitia offers some great convenience features, allowing you to log your food with a photo, voice-to-text, or written description. The AI coach can generate custom meal plans, recipe ideas, and shopping lists, although only premium members can use the AI. You’ll also need to purchase additional coins once your monthly allowance runs out, so you don’t receive unlimited access to the AI, even with a premium plan.
How We Test Nutrition Apps
We want the app we’re testing to be easy to use, with intuitive features that make the app accessible to all users, even beginners. Additionally, we’d like the app to offer enough functionality to be useful even with a free plan.
To get a 3 out of 5, the app is easy to use, but some of the more important features may require a paid subscription.

For this category, we look at the size of the food database, as well as its accuracy. Is it based on official, verified food databases, or are user entries allowed, which may contain errors? For a 3 out of 5, most of the foods we logged were found in the database, with accurate nutrition information most of the time.

Our community score assesses whether or not there’s a social aspect or community feature, and if so, how robust it is. Some apps don’t provide any sort of community, while others allow you to join groups, challenges, or add your friends. We give 3 out of 5 stars to apps that may have basic community features, but they aren’t too active or supportive.

Before we assign a score to any nutrition app, we thoroughly test all of its features. We track our food for a few days, carefully noting any accuracy issues or confusing features. If there’s a community aspect, built-in meal plans, or coaching resources, we assess those, too. After testing, we score each app using our equipment testing methodology, which assesses features such as price, accuracy, progress tracking, resources, and more.

Our team of expert testers is made up of certified nutrition coaches, certified personal trainers, registered dietitians, triathletes, gym owners, and more. We’ve thoroughly used and tested more than 15 of the most popular nutrition tracking apps on the market, and many of our team members have used these apps in our daily lives for years.
For this specific review, we also asked sports dietitian and nutrition expert Destini Moody, RD, CSSD, LD, to take a look and share her thoughts on the Fitia app.

Fitia is a user-friendly nutrition app that combines AI-powered meal planning with robust calorie and macro tracking, making it a strong choice for people who want a personalized approach to nutrition. While many of its best features are locked behind a Premium subscription, the app’s intuitive interface, flexible diet support, and smart recommendations make it one of the better AI calorie-counting apps available today.
What to Know Before You Buy
- While there’s a free plan, the features are limited, and all of the AI features are locked behind the paid plan that costs $19.99 per month, or $4.99 per month with the annual plan.
- This app is a great choice for those who struggle with meal planning and recipe ideas, as it takes care of all the planning for you.
- Photo and voice logging for your food is convenient, but won’t be as accurate as using a food scale or measuring cup, since either you or the AI has to guess at portion sizes for each item on your plate.
Is the Fitia App Worth It?
We think Fitia is an excellent choice for the right user, but it’s not for everyone. Here’s who should and shouldn’t consider giving the Fitia app a try.
If you’re considering giving Fitia a try, here are the key features and specs to be aware of.

Experience Using the Fitia App
Overall, we enjoyed using Fitia, especially the thorough onboarding process. Once you’re set up, using the app is straightforward and easy.
One of the best parts of Fitia is the very thorough onboarding process, which takes you through a detailed questionnaire and allows you to share your preferences with the AI, including foods you like or dislike, your schedule preferences, and more.
“Since I have some prior experience with nutrition apps, the app felt easy to get used to,” our tester told me. “This app was way more user-friendly from the beginning. The set-up process was the longest, but I appreciate how thorough it was.”
The questionnaire helps establish your calorie goal. If you’re a premium member, you can start generating healthy recipes that hit your macros, and have Fitia make a grocery list with the foods you need.

Fitia App Rating

Price
For pricing, we give Fitia 3 out of 5 stars. The monthly plan costs $19.99, which is quite expensive, and would typically only earn a 2-out-of-5-star rating. However, you can buy a year for $59.99, which brings the cost down significantly, but we wish you didn’t have to commit to a full year to get a good deal.
You can also buy a family plan that allows you to add up to six members for $89.99 per year, which is a good deal if you want to share Fitia with others in your household.
While there’s a free tier that you can use forever, all you can do with the free version is track your food by typing it in, log up to four meals per day, and track your body weight. The food database is also limited.

It’s also worth noting that while this isn’t disclosed on the sales page, many users have noted that to generate a meal plan, you have to buy additional coins from Fitia. You’re provided a monthly allotment that will allow you to create a few new meals, but users report the coins quickly run out and they have to pay more to change their meal plan.
Ease of Use/Functionality
Overall, we found the app to be quite easy to use, and gave it 4 out of 5 stars. The setup process is a bit long, but using the app on a day-to-day basis is an enjoyable experience, according to our expert product tester.
“The recommendations are presented in a clear and easy-to-understand format, and I like the colorful progress tracking,” she told me. “Things you can adjust include tailoring calorie targets and meal suggestions based on your goals, activity level, preferences, and dietary restrictions.”

We also like that you can have the AI help you plan meals that fit your goals, and even generate shopping lists. This is a great time-saving feature that takes the guesswork out of your nutrition, although it’s reserved for Fitia premium members.
Accuracy
For accuracy, we give Fitia 4 out of 5 stars. There’s a food database that doesn’t allow user entries, but with photo or voice logging, you can’t be very accurate with the portion sizes of the ingredients on your plate.
“The accuracy of this type of tracking leaves me skeptical,” our registered dietitian Destini Moody told me. “There’s a speak-to-track feature that gives the example of you simply speaking into your phone, ‘I had two toasts with eggs for breakfast.’ For people who have never tracked before, it gives users a false sense of security that all they have to do is give a vague description of their meal and get accurate data, which isn’t the case.”
Logging by text will be the most accurate way if you want precise data, though the photo logging feature works in a pinch–just know you’ll be sacrificing some accuracy.
Fitia says that the app uses USDA-verified food databases for generic food entries, which we appreciate. Just know the portions may not be correct, and the photos may not catch everything correctly, like cooking oils or condiments.
Progress and Stat Tracking
The best health apps allow you to track your progress, and Fitia is no exception. You can track your daily calories, scale weight, body fat percentage, and progress photos, making it easy to see your progress over time. We give it 5 out of 5 stars for stat tracking, as it can track everything you need when it comes to your nutrition.

If you’re using Fitia to help reach your body composition goals, whether that’s fat loss or muscle gain, it’s nice to be able to see everything in one place, rather than having to use a variety of apps to monitor your results.
Best of all, Fitia doesn’t pressure you into sharing photos, which our tester appreciated.
“While setting up, you enter your weight and body measurements and then can update them periodically to track progress,” she explained. “I like how these check-ins are optional and not required. I don’t want there to be an expectation to upload progress photos, that’s just not me.”
Features/Resources
Fitia’s AI offers some great convenience features, like meal planning, recipe generation, custom shopping lists, intermittent fasting timers, and quick logging with a photo, voice, or text. They’re paid features, but if you’re a premium member, they’re nice to have, and will make planning your diet significantly easier.
“I do like the meal planning and grocery store feature, along with a barcode scanner for packaged foods for ease,” says Destini Moody, RD, CSSD, LD. “The meal planner seems legit, and as a dietitian, I know the tedious pain it causes to make meal plans from specific macros. If this app can do it within your individual food preferences, that’s a great feature.”

Community
When you use Fitia, paid users can post on Fitia’s social feed or join local groups. You’ll be able to share photos and updates, join teams, and more.
“There is a social tab which allows people to post progress pictures and connect with others going through similar experiences,” our tester explains. “Groups are also able to be created/joined if you want to connect with others in your area.”

There’s no coaching, but finding a group you want to join can add an extra layer of accountability, and we give Fitia 4 out of 5 stars for community.
Compatibility

We give Fitia 4 out of 5 stars for compatibility. You can also use the Apple Watch companion app, and sync your food with Apple Health, or use the Health Connect by Android integration. This allows Fitia to access data from other apps like Fitbit, Garmin, Oura, and more.
Platform Availability
Fitia is available on both iOS and Android, so it earns 5 out of 5 stars for platform availability, as you can use it with any smartphone.
Customer Reviews

At the time of writing, Fitia has an average customer score of 4.9 out of 5 stars on the App Store with over 19,000 ratings, and 4.8 out of 5 stars on the Google Play store, with over 432,000 reviews.
While the average review score is high, most of the recent reviews report technical difficulties with the AI and complaints about microtransactions, where you have to buy coins to use the meal planning features. It’s unclear how much these coins cost, but you’ll need to buy more every time you want to create a new meal plan or new recipes once you run out of monthly coins.
Customer Service

This category looks at customer service policies, tech support, and any refund policies available. We don’t have any personal experience with the customer service team from Fitia, and give it 3 out of 5 stars.
There’s an email address listed on the website, but no chat or phone options, and we can’t find any information about refunds if you’re not satisfied. While we didn’t experience this, recent reviews also mentioned that they continued to be charged, even after cancelling their membership, which may be frustrating to resolve.
Fitia Vs
Fitia isn’t the only nutrition app on the market, and there are a few other good options. The first is Cronometer, one of our favorite nutrition apps.
While Fitia focuses on convenience and ease of use, with great AI features that make planning a breeze, Cronometer focuses on precision and data. It provides a very detailed look at your nutrition, and the amount of macronutrients and micronutrients, body metrics, and other stats you can track almost feels overwhelming.
“Cronometer tracks significantly more nutrients than most other tracking apps,” says Perry Nix, MS, RD, LD. “This can be incredibly helpful for those with medical conditions that can lead to nutrient deficiencies.”
Cronometer also offers both free and paid plans, although the paid plan is significantly cheaper, and you don’t have to lock in to a full year to get a good deal.
For more, read our detailed Cronometer review.
If you want another app that features photo logging, a large food database, and some unique features, we also recommend MacroFactor. It has a verified food database, a barcode scanner, and the ability to upload and track your progress photos and body weight.
What makes MacroFactor different is its built-in coaching and energy expenditure algorithm. Rather than relying on formulas, MacroFactor uses your actual data, mainly your daily body weight and food intake, to calculate your energy expenditure. You can see your energy expenditure change as your activity levels change, and you can also use MacroFactor’s built-in coaching to automatically adjust your nutrition target to keep you on track toward reaching your goals.

Final Verdict of Our Fitia App Review
Overall, Fitia offers a lot of great features for those seeking a convenient, easy calorie counter and diet app. The built-in AI can generate meal plans, create shopping lists, and help you log your food with photo or voice logging.
The app itself is very easy to use, and we love the convenience. The monthly cost is a bit expensive if you don’t want to commit to a full year, and we wish you didn’t have to pay extra to generate a new meal plan. That said, those who want an easy-to-use AI food app will love Fitia.
- While there’s a free plan available, all of the AI features are locked behind the premium membership, and the free plan is quite limited.
- The monthly cost is $19.99 if you do monthly billing, but an annual plan is only $59.99, which is significantly cheaper.
- The AI logging is included with the premium plan, but you’ll need to purchase additional coins to generate meal plans and recipes, which isn’t clear up front.
