Editor’s Note: The ProForm Trainer 9.0 Treadmill is no longer in production. We suggest viewing the ProForm City L6 as the best alternative or viewing our Best Budget Treadmills list for more options.

The ProForm Trainer 9.0 Treadmill is no longer in production. ProForm discontinued the treadmill when they updated their treadmills to feature three product lines: Pro Series, Carbon Series, and City Series. While it was in production, the ProForm Trainer 9.0 was priced just under $1,000 and sold through retailers like Costco, BJs, and Walmart. The Trainer 9.0 is an iFIT enabled, folding treadmill with incline ability, and a 7-inch HD touchscreen. Read on for our full ProForm Trainer 9.0 Treadmill review, so you can make an informed decision if you encounter one for sale.

Bottom Line

The ProForm City L6 folding treadmill is an affordable and compact treadmill to add to your home even if you don’t have a dedicated home gym.

There are a lot of great alternatives to the Trainer 9.0 if you’re looking to replace your old one or you just don’t want to hunt for one on the secondhand market. We recommend the ProForm City L6. The L6 is ProForm’s newer budget treadmill, and while it isn’t perfect for everyone, it has a compact footprint, folds up for storage, and has iFIT compatibility. The L6 is cheaper than the retail price of the Trainer 9.0 but those savings come at a price—the motor is weaker at 1.6 continuous horsepower (CHP), which really makes the L6 best for walkers. Key Features of the ProForm Trainer 9.0

The standout feature for this treadmill, like many ProForm and NordicTrack products, is the iFIT compatibility. The 7-inch touchscreen and an iFIT membership allows you to stream workouts directly from your treadmill console. You will need to place the Trainer 9.0 somewhere in your home with a good WiFi connection to take advantage of this. While using an iFIT workout, the trainer can automatically change the speed and incline of the treadmill so you can focus on your workout. You can also override it with your console controls.

Footprint, Portability, and Durability

The ProForm Trainer 9.0 treadmill features SpaceSaver Design which allows you to fold the treadmill up for post-workout storage. The treadmill also has a compact design with a footprint of just under 3 feet by 5.5 feet. The treadmill features transport wheels, but customers complained that moving the machine was difficult and awkward.

This treadmill has an industry standard 300-pound user weight capacity, which is great for a budget machine. It also came with a 10-year frame and 1-year motor, parts, and labor warranties. These pieces of information speak well to the treadmill’s durability.

Ergonomics

These smaller dimensions mean the tread belt is only 18 inches wide by 50 inches long. The 50-inch tread belt length is not ideal for most people, especially if you’re trying to run. We usually look for the tread belt to be at least 55 inches long for running and prefer 60 inches long for taller users.

The treadmill features ProForm’s ProShox cushioning throughout the deck. ProForm explains that ProShox provides a softer landing surface so you can work out longer and recover quicker.

Technology Benefits and Conveniences

The Trainer 9.0 includes a lot of technology. The centerpiece of the console is a 7-inch HD touchscreen to stream iFIT workouts via an iFIT subscription. The machine is also compatible with Bluetooth heart rate monitors, but unfortunately a heart rate monitor was not included in the purchase. The console also features a 3.5 millimeter jack for connecting your phone or iPod to the dual 2-inch speakers—a feature that’s not quite as useful now that we don’t really use iPods and most of our phones don’t have headphone jacks.

Non-tech comforts include two large water bottle holders on either side of the console and an integrated device shelf for your phone or tablet. The console also features 10 Quick Speed buttons so you don’t have to waste your time repeatedly pressing an arrow button to change the speed.

Final Verdict of Our ProForm Trainer 9.0 Review

The ProForm Trainer 9.0 was a solid machine to get your cardio in at home. There are a lot of amenities for a budget machine including a touchscreen, Bluetooth heart rate monitoring capabilities, iFIT compatibility, incline, and a foldable design. If you can find it cheaply on the secondhand market, I would give it a shot, especially if you’re just looking to walk. I wouldn’t hunt for it, though, as there are a lot of newer budget machines for your home gym.

ProForm Trainer 9.0 FAQs

Is the ProForm Trainer 9.0 a good treadmill?

Yes, ProForm has a reputation for making solid and affordable fitness equipment. The ProForm Trainer 9.0 is no exception.

Can you run on the ProForm Trainer 9.0?

Yes, but it is not great for lots of intense running. The top speed of the Trainer 9.0 is 10 mph. When we look at treadmill specs we look for at least 2.5 CHP for jogging. If you want to do a lot of running we recommend a stronger 3.0 CHP motor. The Proform Trainer 9.0’s motor falls right in the middle at 2.75 CHP.

If you’re looking to run, check out our Best Treadmills for Running.

How much does the ProForm Trainer 9.0 weigh?

We could not find the weight of the ProForm Trainer 9.0 Treadmill when assembled. We did find out it weighs 193 pounds when shipped, so that should be pretty close to its assembled weight.
