Searching for a refreshing drink to boost your protein intake? You might be in the market for one of the best clear whey protein drinks.

With so many options, we recommend prioritizing products with at least 20 grams of protein per serving, minimal ingredients, third-party testing certifications, and a price point within your budget. Isopure Infusions meets the first two criteria but may fall short of the latter, but you shouldn’t write it off just yet: It could be a viable option for you, and we’re here to guide your choice.

In this Isopure Infusions Protein Powder review, gain firsthand expert insights from GGR Performance Editor Anthony O’Reilly, CPT, CNC, and myself, a registered dietitian. Let’s dive into it!

100+ Tried and Tested Protein Powders by Fitness Industry Leaders

Product Highlights

  • Clear whey isolate protein powder
  • 20 g of protein per serving
  • Under 100 calories per serving
  • 6 fruit flavors

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Tastes good with just water
  • Gluten and lactose free
  • Only 5 ingredients

Cons

  • Produces foam after shaking
  • Must be shaken, not stirred
  • Only 20 g protein per serving

Bottom Line

Isopure Clear Whey Protein is made from an ultra hydrolyzed whey protein isolate that is designed to mix clear smooth. Isopure comes in six fruit-based flavors and is ideal for anyone who wants a refreshing way to drink whey protein. Amazon pricing varies slightly depending on the flavor. You can buy Isopure Clear Whey in 16- or 36-serving containers.

A Quick Look at Isopure Infusions Protein Powder

In 1984, Isopure Protein “started with a concrete mixer, simple ingredients, and a lot of hard work” (their words, not mine). It has since grown into a popular supplement brand offering pure protein products with minimal carbs, fat, and calories, including its Isopure Infusions line.

Isopure provides whey protein isolate, containing at least 90 percent protein by weight. Unlike typical milky whey isolates, Isopure Infusions protein is processed into smaller molecules, resulting in a finer powder with a thinner consistency and clearer appearance.

Isopure Infusions provides a unique, lighter alternative to traditional protein shakes. However, there are factors to consider before purchasing.

Before You Buy

  • Allergen risks: Although not formulated with soy ingredients, it may be contaminated during manufacturing. It’s also claimed gluten-free yet does not have gluten-free certifications, so individuals should be cautious based on tolerance.
  • Consistency: When mixed with water, clear whey proteins have a thinner texture, similar to collagen powder, and are not as creamy as traditional protein shakes.

Is Isopure Clear Whey Protein Worth It?

At $2.62 per serving, Isopure Clear Whey Protein is on the higher end of the price range among clear protein powders, and Anthony agrees it’s costly for a 16-serving tub. Although the “clean” formulation might justify the price, it may not align with everyone’s dietary needs, preferences, and goals.

RELATED: Best Clean Protein Powder

Great for:

  • Individuals looking for a refreshing alternative to traditional protein shakes
  • Anyone who enjoys fruity flavors
  • Consumers who prioritize “clean” formulas with minimal ingredients and without artificial flavors and sweeteners

Not recommended for:

  • Those who prefer a creamier product in standard flavors like Chocolate and Vanilla, or an Unflavored option
  • Individuals with dairy allergies or severe intolerances, although it could be appropriate for those with mild lactose intolerance
  • Consumers who prioritize third-party-testing, especially athletes subject to drug testing

Experience Using Isopure Infusions Protein Powder

Anthony O’Reilly, GGR performance editor, certified personal trainer, and certified nutrition coach, tested Isopure Infusions protein powder and noted that he enjoys mixing it with Diet Coke for a great-tasting treat. However, the steep price point and slight stomach upset were minor drawbacks, and his girlfriend had an average experience. Let’s delve further into the details.

Price Per Serving

On the Isopure website, a 16-serving container costs $41.99, equating to $2.62 per serving. Opting for a 36-serving container costs $69.99, reducing the cost to $1.94 per serving, though this option isn’t available for all flavors.

Purchasing through Amazon shows wild price fluctuations. For instance, a 16-ounce container of Mixed Berry costs $29.94 ($1.88 per serving), while Mango Lime costs $38.27 ($2.39 per serving). Plus, Amazon prices can change daily.

A scoop of Isopure Infusions Protein Powder is poured into a glass.

Despite its high-quality ingredients and greater affordability on third-party sites, the price inconsistencies and higher cost pose potential budget concerns for average consumers, resulting in a 1-out-of-5-star rating for price.

Formulation

One serving of Isopure Infusions provides 90 calories, 20 grams of protein, 2 grams of carbohydrates, and 0 grams of fat, earning a 4-out-5-star rating. Let’s examine its formulation more closely.

Whey Protein Isolate

Whey protein isolate is a highly purified form of whey protein with at least 90% protein. Like all whey proteins1, isolates provide all essential (EAAs) and branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) to support muscle growth and recovery.

Whey isolates also contain less lactose (the natural carb in milk and dairy products) and fats than whey concentrates, resulting in faster and easier digestion. So, if you’re lactose intolerant, you may be able to tolerate whey isolate protein better than concentrates.

Other Ingredients

Isopure Infusions protein powder is also formulated with the following in smaller amounts:

  • Natural flavor
  • Citric acid
  • Stevia leaf extract
  • Turmeric extract for natural color (Citrus Lemonade, Mango Lime, and Pineapple Orange Banana flavors)
  • Fruit and vegetable juice (in Mixed Berry, Watermelon Lime, and Tropical Punch flavors)

These components improve freshness, flavor, sweetness, and color.

Taste and Solubility

Anthony and his girlfriend tried the Mango Lime flavor and noted it had less mango than lime, with an artificial and diluted taste. “I wanted this to taste like Kool-Aid…that’s just ‘Aid,’” Anthony’s girlfriend said. On the plus side, there were no issues when mixed with water.

Isopure Clear Whey protein is shown mixed in a glass next to the container.

Overall, we rate the Mango Lime flavor a 3 out of 5 for taste and a 4.5 out of 5 for solubility.

Side Effects

Anthony mentioned feeling a bit nauseous after taking Isopure, although his girlfriend didn’t experience any issues. Some customer reviews on Amazon highlight that it’s light on the stomach, though a few others note experiencing an upset stomach. While individual experiences may vary, with many noting its easy digestibility, we rate it 4 out of 5 for potential side effects.

Third-Party Testing

Dietary supplements are not tightly regulated, allowing products with questionable potency, purity, and misleading claims to enter the market. Independent, third-party testing can mitigate these risks. While products without third-party testing are not inherently “bad,” we prioritize those undergoing scrutiny.

Isopure Infusions Protein Powder Lab Scorecard
GGR collaborated with Ellipse Analytics, an accredited third-party lab, to test more than 150 protein powders. We screened for dozens of factors and rated each product against its peers. Excellent indicates the top 10% of products; Above Average is the top 25% of products; and Meets Standard is the top 50%.

Isopure Infusion shows no indications of third-party testing, but as discussed in our Isopure Protein Review, GGR got more than 150 protein powders third-party tested for label accuracy and purity by accredited lab Ellipse Analytics. The Unflavored Isopure Zero Carb protein powder received excellent ratings across the board, falling in the top 10% of all products tested for heavy metals and protein content.

Isopure Infusions followed suit with the Mixed Berry flavor scoring a slightly lower but still good rating in the top 50%, leading us to rate it a 3 out of 5 in this category. It’s important to note that just because a product showed higher amounts of something doesn’t automatically mean that it’s not safe to use. Our Independent Supplement Testing Glossary goes into more detail if you’d like to learn more about what these scores mean.

Isopure Clear Whey vs MuscleTech Clear Whey

MuscleTech Clear Whey Isolate

MuscleTech Iso Whey Clear

product image
Check Price

Product Highlights

  • Juice-like formula delivers protein in a lighter option
  • Formulated with ProHydrolase to aid with absorption
  • Free of sugar and fat while being low in calories

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Light texture
  • Low calorie
  • Sugar-free

Cons

  • May be clumpy when mixed
  • Contains sucralose
  • Artificial flavors

Bottom Line

MuscleTech Iso Whey Clear delivers 22 grams of protein in three juice-like flavors. Since it mixes more like a BCAA powder, this could be great for those who prefer a lighter texture over the standard thicker protein shake, or for those wanting to try something new.

MuscleTech Clear Whey shares several characteristics with Isopure Clear Whey, such as offering 90 calories per serving and falling short in third-party testing. However, it has some clear differences. The protein content is a little higher than Isopure with 2 grams more per serving, although it does contain artificial flavors and sweeteners. It also contains the digestive enzymes2 protease and bromelain to aid nutrient absorption and digestion. It only has three flavors compared to Isopure Infusion’s six options, but it’s about $0.50 cheaper per serving.

Customer Experience

Isopure offers various ways to contact them, including a phone number available on standard business days, an email, and a contact form. Their FAQ section also addresses common questions and includes a search bar for easy navigation.

But let’s focus on what you’re likely most curious about: shipping and return policies. Shipping is free on orders over $75, and you can return your purchases through their website within 30 days of receiving your shipment. Returns after this 30-day window aren’t accepted, and you need to call before sending anything back.

Ordering Isopure Infusions

To order Isopure Infusions, add it to your cart and follow the prompts to enter your shipping and payment information. You don’t need an Isopure account to complete your purchase, but creating one can expedite future checkouts and help you track your orders.

Isopure Infusions is also available on third-party sites like Amazon, but you’ll be subject to their refund and return policies. Unlike Isopure, however, Amazon offers subscription options, and Prime orders ship free.

Customer Reviews

Isopure Infusion currently has 28,555 global ratings on Amazon, averaging 4.1 out of 5 stars. Customers mostly appreciate the quality formulation and enjoy it as a refreshing alternative to traditional protein powders. While others mention mixed feedback regarding its taste and mixability, noting quite a bit of foam, most agree that the value is not quite there.

Final Verdict of Our Isopure Infusions Protein Powder Review

Isopure offers a clear protein with some notable perks and drawbacks, but it’s a popular choice among the masses. Consider these final takeaways before adding this unique whey protein isolate to your supplement stack:

  • Offers 20 grams of protein per serving with little to no fat, carbs, and lactose
  • Free of added sugars, artificial sweeteners, artificial flavors, and other additives
  • May contain soy due to cross-contamination
  • It’s pricier than other clear proteins on the market
  • Comes in six fruity flavors, although reviews are mixed on its taste and solubility
  • Lacks third-party testing certifications, so competitive athletes especially should rethink Isopure

Isopure Infusions Protein Powder: FAQs

Is Isopure Infusions a good protein powder?

Offering 20 grams of protein and formulated with natural ingredients, Isopure Infusions is a good option for anyone looking for a clear protein source and who can tolerate milk protein.

Is Isopure infusion good for weight loss?

As a low-calorie, high-protein supplement, Isopure Infusion can be helpful for those on a calorie-restricted, weight-loss diet. Plus, research3 supports that protein promotes weight loss and maintenance by influencing energy metabolism, controlling appetite, and regulating calorie intake.

Is Isopure protein powder good for you?

All Isopure protein products aim to be pure, with minimal ingredients, calories, and fillers. While most achieve this by providing pure protein, some products—like the Isopure Low Carb protein powder—contain artificial flavors and food dyes that don’t offer significant benefits beyond palatability and appearance.

Is Isopure Infusions a meal replacement?

Formulated primarily with whey protein isolate, Isopure Infusions lack the carbs and fats needed to be a meal replacement. While a great post-workout option to kickstart muscle-building and recovery, using protein supplements to replace meals can lead to a deficiency in dietary fiber and other essential nutrients.

Is Isopure FDA approved?

The Food and Drug Administration (FDA) does not approve dietary supplements, including Isopure Protein, for safety, effectiveness, or labeling before being sold to the public.
