Choosing a new protein powder can feel overwhelming and even a bit risky, especially when you’re looking for one of the best vegan protein powders. While most dairy-based protein powders have a pretty good taste and texture, many plant-based proteins often fall short in the taste and texture department.

There’s nothing worse than getting excited to open a brand-new tub of protein, only to be met with disappointment and regret when you realize you don’t like the taste, and now you’re stuck with the whole tub. I’ve been there, and I’m here to help.

In this Purely Inspired Organic Protein review, I’ll explain everything you need to know about this protein based on our hands-on testing and experience, including the formulation, solubility, taste, and more.

A Quick Look at Purely Inspired Organic Protein

Purely Inspired Organic Protein is a plant-based, gluten-free, non-GMO protein powder that uses 100% pure ingredients. The blend is formulated with pea and rice protein, natural flavors, sweeteners, and a fruit and vegetable blend similar to what you’d find in a high-quality greens powder

This isn’t common among protein supplements, and it’s interesting to see the added fruits and veggies in this product.

Purely Inspired takes pride in making supplements that use high-quality, organic ingredients, transparent labeling, and affordable pricing to make sure its products will fit most budgets. In addition to protein, the company also sells collagen peptides, organic greens, and other health supplements.

While each tub of Organic Protein is on the smaller end, the price per serving is fantastic for any type of protein, let alone a plant-based protein that uses organic ingredients.

Before You Buy

  • This product uses a blend of rice and pea protein and contains 20 grams of protein per scoop.
  • Each tub only contains 16 servings, so you may need to re-order frequently if you drink a daily protein shake.
  • In addition to protein, each serving contains digestive enzymes and an organic fruit and veggie blend.

Is Purely Inspired Organic Protein Worth It?

Even though the price per serving is quite low, Purely Inspired Organic Protein isn’t necessarily a great fit for everyone. Depending on your goals and preferences, you may need to choose a different powder to help reach your protein goals.

Great for:

  • Anyone following a plant-based diet
  • Those looking for an affordable protein supplement
  • People who have a hard time digesting whey protein powder

Not recommended for:

  • Anyone who prefers more than 20 grams of protein per serving
  • Those who want a fast-digesting protein source

Experience Using Purely Inspired Organic Protein

Anytime we write a review, it’s based on extensive testing from one of our experts. For this review, our tester was Erin Chancer, CPT, CNC, a senior editor at GGR who has extensive experience testing protein supplements.

A hand lifting a scoop of Purely Inspired Organic Protein powder from the container.

She tested this nutritional shake with both milk and water, testing the flavor, solubility, and overall experience. Erin enjoyed using this protein. She said it wasn’t the best tasting protein she’s had, but also not the worst, and for the low price per serving, this is a great deal.

The formulation is interesting, as Purely Inspired has added a fruit and veggie blend, digestive enzymes, and LactoSpore®, a patented strain Bacillus coagulans MTCC 5856, a probiotic that’s meant to support gut health.

RELATED: What To Look For in Protein Powder

Each serving also packs in 4 grams of fiber, so this protein contains additional micronutrients to go with the 20 grams of protein found in each serving. Despite this, Erin still enjoyed the taste and didn’t experience any negative side effects.

Price Per Serving

Prices fluctuate, but a single tub usually costs $17 to $18 for 16 servings. Erin’s tub cost $18.14 from Amazon, for a final price per serving of $1.13.

This is very affordable for protein powder, especially one that contains other beneficial ingredients, so Erin gave this a rating of 4.7 out of 5 stars for the price per serving.

Formulation

When it comes to the formulation, we want to see a high protein content relative to the fat and carbs. With 20 grams of protein per scoop, this earns a 5-out-of-5 score based on our methodology.

RELATED: How Much Protein Do I Need?

It’s also worth digging into the formulation, as it’s a little different than the typical protein powders you may be used to and contains a variety of superfoods. In addition to using a blend of organic pea and brown rice protein, Purely Inspired added an organic fruit and veggie blend, a probiotic, and digestive enzymes.

Nutrition Facts label on a container of Purely Inspired Organic Protein.

This makes it seem more like a meal replacement shake than a post-workout shake, as it contains more nutrients than a basic protein shake would have.

As it’s a plant-based protein, the carb content is higher than you’d typically see in a whey protein, ranging from 8-9 grams of carbs depending on the flavor. Even if you only look at the net carbs, which would be 4-5 grams per serving, this may be too high for someone following a very low-carb diet.

There is 1 gram of added sugar in the form of cane sugar, along with stevia, but no other artificial sweeteners or additives.

Taste and Solubility

Erin gave this a score of 3.75 out of 5 for taste, saying it wasn’t the best-tasting protein powder she’s ever had, but certainly not the worst either.

Erin tried the Peppermint Mocha flavor and said, “You definitely get hit with the mint right away, more so than the chocolate. There’s a little bit of a stevia aftertaste that was unpleasant at first, but I got used to it after a bit.”

A freshly mixed shake made from Purely Inspired Organic Protein.

For the solubility, we gave a 4-out-of-5 rating. Erin noted that it mixes pretty well with both milk and water in a shaker cup, but she took her time drinking the shake, and there was a layer of powder on the bottom when she finished.

Her advice? Drink it quickly, or periodically shake it as you go to make sure it stays mixed.

Side Effects

Erin didn’t experience any side effects, so she gave this a 5-out-of-5 score.

However, as with all supplements, individual responses vary. If you have a known sensitivity to any of the ingredients in this protein powder, like brown rice protein or sugar alcohols, you may want to consider something else. Purely Inspired added a digestive enzyme called papain to the protein, but that doesn’t guarantee that you won’t experience any digestive issues.

Third-Party Testing

Third-party testing ensures that a supplement is free of banned ingredients and heavy metals, and contains what’s claimed on the label.

While we always prefer to see clear third-party testing from a reputable organization, a lack of third-party testing doesn’t necessarily mean a supplement should be avoided. Erin pointed out that Purely Inspired Organic Protein is certified USDA organic, and the label states that it’s been triple-checked for quality, purity, and value.

Looking down into a container of Purely Inspired Organic Protein.

This is nice to see, but there’s no indication of who verified these claims or performed the testing, so we give this a 3.5-out-of-5 rating for third-party testing.

Purely Inspired Organic Protein vs Transparent Labs Vegan Protein

If you’re looking for a different organic plant-based protein powder that also uses pea and rice protein, but you’re not crazy about all of the additional ingredients Purely Inspired added to their formula, another great option is Transparent Labs Vegan Protein.

Transparent Labs uses a similar protein blend, but there’s more protein per serving and a significantly shorter ingredient list, though it’s a little more expensive.

Overall, Purely Inspired is the better choice for anyone who wants a protein with fiber, digestive enzymes, and fruits and veggies. Transparent Labs is best for those who prefer more protein per serving and want to avoid the other ingredients.

Customer Experience

Erin gave the customer experience a 4-out-of-5 star rating. She ordered her protein from Amazon and received free shipping with fast delivery. Amazon prices may fluctuate over time, but at the time of writing, the cost per tub ranges from $17.38 to $18.29, depending on the flavor.

You can also order a box that contains individual servings in packets, but this will cost as much as $31.93 for 14 servings.

A scoop of Purely Inspired Organic Protein is being poured into a shaker cup.

If you order from Purely Inspired, you’ll pay $24.99 per tub, which raises the price per serving to $1.56. You’ll also need to pay for shipping on orders under $30. The return policy isn’t great, as the company only accepts unopened items within 30 days, and you’ll need to pay for your own shipping.

Customer Reviews

Customer ratings are high. This protein has over 15,000 reviews on Amazon with an average rating of 4.2 stars and a 4.1 rating based on 759 reviews on the Purely Inspired website.

Most customers are happy with their purchase, though some negative reviews mention the texture is too thick, or they aren’t happy with the flavor.

It’s also worth calling out that quite a few reviews say the bottle is very difficult to open, though Erin didn’t have any issues.

Final Verdict of Our Purely Inspired Organic Protein Review

If you’re looking for an affordable plant-based protein powder with high-quality ingredients and plenty of protein per serving, this is a solid choice. Flavor preferences are subjective, so we can’t guarantee you’ll love the taste and texture. But overall, we think this is a solid protein powder, especially for such a low price per serving.

  • Each scoop contains 20 grams of protein, along with beneficial nutrients and digestive enzymes.
  • The tubs only contain 16 servings, so you may need to re-order frequently.
  • The product has an average cost of $17 to $18 on Amazon but costs $24.99 if you order from Purely Inspired.
