For this Onnit Shroom Tech review, we recruited Nicole Davis, CPT, PN1-NC, and GGR head of content, as our expert tester to give it a try. Thanks to Joe Rogan, Onnit products are far from obscure, given his strong endorsement of Alpha Brain pre-workout, a nootropic pre-workout supplement from Onnit.
This greens powder is nothing special on the actual greens front, containing all of the typical ingredients. What made it stand out to us is the inclusion of mushrooms that have been used in traditional Chinese medicine and may hold their own unique set of health benefits. However, it is all style and no substance? We had our team try it out and report back. Here’s what we found.

- To get a 1-2, price falls above $2.25
- To get a 3, price falls between $1.15 and $2.25

A Quick Look at Onnit Shroom Tech Greens
Onnit is a brand that’s prevalent in the media, mainly due to the Joe Rogan podcast’s endorsement of Alpha Brain pre-workout. Onnit products range from exercise performance products such as creatine and whey protein to health and wellness products like melatonin spray.
Don’t confuse their Shroom Tech Greens powder for Onnit’s Shroom Tech Sport which also contains cordyceps sinensis, ashwagandha, green tea extract, rhodiola, and methyl B-12 in a capsule.

Before You Buy
- It’s an acquired taste! So, if you’re new to greens powders especially, take advantage of the “entry-size” supplements that fall under the money-back guarantee.
- Don’t confuse this product with the Shroom Tech Sport which has similar key ingredients.

Is Onnit Shroom Tech Greens Worth It?
At $2 a serving, the price is a bit steep for this greens product and our testers were not fans of the flavor. So, if you want something that assists with cellular energy, it may be better to just take creatine and eat some vegetables. That said, it does come in convenient, single-use packets so you don’t have to lug a tub of greens powder around.
Great for:
- People who are often on the go, especially in the morning
- Those who are experienced in taking unflavored greens powder
- Individuals who want a unique blend of superfood greens and adaptogens
Not recommended for:
- Those on a tight budget for dietary supplements
- People who are sensitive to intense and overwhelming flavors
- Individuals trying greens for the first time

Experience Using Onnit Shroom Tech Greens
Our expert product tester for Shroom Tech Greens was Nicole Davis, a certified personal trainer, Precision Nutrition-certified nutrition coach, and GGR head of content. While she liked the solubility and money-back guarantee, she and our other testers noted the mushroom flavor was overwhelming. However, it may be more tolerable when mixed with other beverages such as V8 given that the supplement has no other flavor options to make the greens powder taste better.
Price Per Serving
Nicole’s score is 3 out of 5 stars for price. The breakdown is as follows:
- $39.99 per container
- 30 servings
- $1.33 per serving
Formulation
Nicole’s score is 2 out of 5 stars for the formulation. She likes the whole-food sourced ingredients like spirulina and chlorella and the lack of gluten. However, she didn’t like that there was no caffeine. Among the key ingredients are the superfood greens and mushrooms which have been used in traditional Chinese medicine:
- Cordyceps Sinensis: No, zombie show fans, not THAT Cordyceps. This fungus is thought to have the same ATP boosting effect as creatine, which is another supplement that can assist with cellular energy and exercise performance. In clinical trials1, young adults given cordyceps sinensis in capsule form experienced an 11% increase in aerobic performance compared to the placebo group.
- Reishi: A Chinese study2 showed consuming the mushroom reduced fatigue by 8% and improved “sense of well-being” by 10% compared to the placebo group.
- Lion’s Mane: Multiple studies3 have suggested that this mushroom species impacts mental performance, most notably reducing feelings of depression and anxiety4 among study subjects.
- Spirulina and Chlorella: Both spirulina and chlorella are powerful antioxidants that may aid in boosting immune system function5.
Taste and Solubility
Nicole’s score on taste is 3 out of 5 stars, as she wasn’t a big fan of the flavor and there are no other flavor options. “Tasted like straight-up mushrooms! I did not enjoy it, but I could see someone who really likes mushrooms finding it OK,” Nicole says. “I ended up mixing it with V8 and that was fine.”

Another GGR product tester also tried this and agreed with Nicole’s sentiment, saying “The taste of watery mushrooms was overwhelming. I was hoping that there would be a relief of mint or even the grassy flavor that other greens provide. But I was met with the hard reality that this was dank mushroom water and was sad to have to finish the greens that I tested that morning.”
Nicole’s score on solubility is 5 out of 5 stars because it did dissolve completely, so Shroom Tech has that going for it.
Side Effects
Nicole’s score is 4 out of 5 stars for what she was able to use. She says, “Nothing noticeable but I also didn’t drink this more than once because I just couldn’t stomach the taste.” If you are pregnant, nursing, have any medical conditions, or are taking any medications, you should seek the advice of a medical professional before taking any supplements like greens powder.

Third-Party Testing
Nicole’s score is 3 out of 5 for this category. “Most Onnit products are Informed Choice certified, but I can’t seem to find anything on this one. It is USDA organic,” reports Nicole. Indeed, verified third-party labs rarely certify greens powder.

Bottom Line
Legion Genesis Greens is a top-of-the-line greens powder that has been third-party tested and contains scientifically-backed ingredients and dosages.
Many members of our team are big fans of Legion Athletics whey products, but they also have a greens powder that made the list when we sought the best greens powders out there. But how does it stack up against Onnit Shroom Tech?
Neither contains added sugars, but, unlike Shroom Tech, Legion has a much lower price, a flavored option, and is third-party tested. That said, Legion comes in a tub with scoops, while Onnit’s green powders come in convenient packets and the scoops have four times more volume than Onnit’s packets.

Customer Experience
Nicole’s score is 4 out of 5 for customer service. “Don’t see any big complaints, besides the fact that it’s expensive to ship this to Canada.” She also likes the return policy and guarantee. “They have a money-back guarantee on ‘entry-size’ supplements and you don’t have to return them, you just have to try it for two weeks before you request a refund.”
Specifically, the money-back guarantee requires you to notify the team as to why it wasn’t a fit and you’ll get a refund on the spot, as long as you’ve tried it out for at least two weeks, and is redeemable for up to 90 days after the purchase date.

Customer Reviews
Onnit’s greens product is not currently available on Amazon. However, on the Onnit website, the overall rating is 4.6 out of 416 reviews. Some who chose to write a review found out about the supplement through the Joe Rogan podcast and liked its effects on their energy, but there are complaints about the taste and how it feels to take on an empty stomach.
Final Verdict of Our Onnit Shroom Tech Review
There are recipes on the product page for smoothies using this powder for a reason! I think Onnit is thoroughly aware that their unflavored product is an acquired taste. So, while getting an energy boost from this product is certainly better than energy drinks in terms of health benefits, the latter is definitely more tolerable.
RELATED: Best Greens Powder for Bloating
If you want to try the novel mushrooms included in the ingredients and are sensitive to the strong flavor, it may be better to check out the Shroom Tech Sport which is taken in a capsule. Otherwise, the single-serve packets from Shroom Tech make for a convenient way to get your daily greens in.
- May help you meet your daily vegetable servings, but remember to still eat actual vegetables
- Get the V8 or some other beverage ready to blend it with while you’re waiting for it to arrive
- The price is more than the market average for similar products, but the presence of the mushrooms may add more value
