For this Pride pre-workout review, we had the supplement tested by GGR Performance Editor, CPT, and pre-workout enthusiast Anthony O’Reilly. Our team is quite familiar with OxyWhey and OxyShred, so we had to check out Pride pre-workout that also comes from the same company.

Pride contains a patented energy release formula that’s one of a kind along with a nootropic blend and a (this is directly from the label) “Skin-Splitting Off the Bone Pumps” blend. So we broke it all down to see what the science says about the formulation and had Anthony report back on his experience taking the supplement.

Pros

  • Contains L-citrulline
  • Nootropic blend to increase focus
  • Nine different flavors
  • Vegan-friendly

Cons

  • Not third-party tested for banned substances
  • Expensive price per serving if using 2 scoops

Bottom Line

PRIDE Pre-Workout is a supplement made to boost energy through workouts with a unique five-stage energy blend. With caffeine, green coffee extract, yerba mate, green tea extract, and Infinergy (a milder form of caffeine), this pre-workout claims to extend the energy release of the pre-workout, to keep you going during your workout. PRIDE also contains a nootropic blend for better focus, as well as L-citrulline to increase blood flow.

A Quick Look at Pride Pre-Workout

Founded in Utah in 2012, EHP Labs is a brand many recognize for their partnership with YouTube stars like Zac Perna. Also, if the name OxyShred sounds familiar, that’s from good ol’ EHP.

RELATED: Strongest Pre-Workout

OxyShred is their flagship product with versions ranging from OxyShred Hardcore to Non-Stim. But we’re not talking about OxyShred today. Their Pride pre-workout focuses less on being a fat burner and more on providing pump and focus, along with some interesting flavors.

Before You Buy

  • More flavors may be available on the official website rather than Amazon, when in stock.
  • Be prepared to take two scoops at a time for full benefits.
  • The caffeine content is quite high, so be wary of how much you are getting from other sources.

Is Pride Pre-Workout Worth It?

If you’re new to pre-workout, you may feel the effects of Pride’s 5 stage energy release more profoundly with a single scoop. However, for more seasoned pre-workout enthusiasts, it’s likely that only two scoops will do and this can get expensive at $2.25 per serving.

So, if you don’t mind the cost if it means getting a mean pump and some clean energy from green coffee extract and caffeine anhydrous, Pride may be worth it.

Great for:

  • People who only “feel it” if the caffeine content is high
  • Those who hate the tingles that come from beta alanine
  • Individuals who need razor sharp focus to finish out their workout

Not recommended for:

  • People on a tight supplement budget
  • Weightlifters who don’t do well with a large volume of powder
  • Those who avoid artificial sweeteners

Experience Using Pride Pre-Workout

It’s an understatement to say that Anthony O’Reilly, CPT and GGR performance editor, is a pre-workout veteran. Having tested both stim and non-stim supplements for us, he seems thrilled to be able to try Pride.

RELATED: Pre-workout vs Energy Drink

According to his experience he generally disagrees with the verified reviews of Pride, especially when it comes to the energy release feature. “Even though there are more low scores than we would like to see, boy, I would give it a 10 if I could just for the effects.”

Price Per Serving

We gave a rating of 1 out of 5 here. We’ll get into the formulation in a minute, but to get the full force of this pre-workout, it’s best to take two scoops. That said, at $44.95 per tub and 20 two-scoop servings, the price comes out to $2.25 per serving which is quite high for a pre-workout.

Formulation

We gave a rating of 3 out of 5 for formulation. Though there are plenty of science-backed ingredients, many fall short of the efficacious dose unless you take two scoops, which could pose a problem for caffeine sensitive folks.

  • Skin-Splitting Off the Bone PUMPS Blend: While it can’t be said that the name isn’t trying hard enough, this blend does include products backed by science.
    • L-citrulline: Shown to help with muscle soreness and boost the production of nitric oxide to improve blood flow, the effective dose of citrulline malate is about 3 to 5 grams1. Here’s the rub, though: If you can only tolerate one scoop of Pride, you won’t get this dose. However, with two scoops, you get the maximum dose of 5 grams.
    • Betaine anhydrous: Researchers found that 15 days of supplementing with betaine anhydrous improved muscular endurance, muscle strength, and rep quality2.
    • Nitrosigine: Can increase exercise blood flow and reduce muscle fatigue3, especially when combined with citrulline.
  • BCAA and EAA: Pride contains not only branched-chain amino acids, but all nine essential amino acids. This is good because studies show consuming all nine EAAs is superior for muscle growth compared to BCAAs alone4

  • Pentaffeine5-stage Energy Release: A blend of caffeine, Yerba Mate, and caffeine from sources like green coffee extract and bitter orange extract, Pride claims it is the industry first pre-workout to use this patented blend, designed to release energy in stages for a longer-lasting effect without jitters.
    • Yerba Mate: Yerba Mate has recently made waves in supplements as a fat burner due to some studies demonstrating its ability to decrease body fat mass5 when supplemented three times a day.
  • Super Nootropic Focus Blend
    • Taurine: Science suggests this compound may be able to help improve brain function6 for better focus during your workouts.
    • Theobromine: When taken with caffeine, theobromine, the main alkaloid in cocoa beans, works to improve mood and cognitive function7.
    • L-tyrosine: This ingredient has been shown to improve cognitive function8 in athletes.
    • Phosphatidylserine: This phospholipid is found in most plant and animal cell membranes and has been shown to help improve cognitive function before intense resistance training.

There’s no beta alanine in the formulation. So, if you are one who finds the tingles you get from this compound more of a hindrance than a help, this is a great formulation for you.

Taste and Solubility

We gave Pride a 3.75 out of 5 in the taste category. Anthony tried the Rainbow Candy and says, “It didn’t really have much of a flavor. I got something candy-like, sort of like Smarties taste, more like sugar than candy, but it was very meh.”

That said, Anthony didn’t have any issues with mixing the pre in water, so we awarded a 5 out of 5 for solubility.

Side Effects

Anthony was absolutely raving about the effects of Pride pre workout, so we gave it a rating of 5 out of 5 in this category. Anthony remarks, “This is a BOMB of energy, and I mean that in the best way.” He equates it to drinking the strongest cold brew that you have ever had in your life.

Anthony also reported razor sharp focus. “I often compare a good pre-workout supplement with putting horse blinders on, but in this case I could literally focus on nothing but lifting weights; it was like I had been hypnotized.”

Third-Party Testing

Pride earned a 1 out of 5 in this category. At the time of writing, EHP Labs Pride Pre Workout is not third-party tested by recognized bodies like Informed Choice or NSF for Sport.

Pride Pre-Workout vs Pre Lab Pro

Pre Lab Pro

Pre-Lab Pro

product image
GGR Score: 3.2

Product Highlights

  • Natural berry flavor
  • Moderate caffeine content
  • Vegan, vegetarian, GMO-free
  • 1 serving is 1 scoop
  • Nootropic-enhanced

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • All-natural ingredients
  • Vegan and vegetarian
  • Gluten-free, soy-free
  • Non-GMO
  • Nootropic-enhanced

Cons

  • Moderate dose of caffeine may not be enough for everyone
  • Only 1 flavor available

Bottom Line

Pre-Lab Pro is vegan and vegetarian-friendly, allergen-friendly, non-GMO, soy-free, gluten-free, and free from artificial flavors and synthetic additives

After trying Pre Lab Pro a few months ago, our team wanted to stack it up against Pride. Pre Lab Pro is more expensive, but it is third-party tested by Informed Sport. That said, both pre-workouts also have underdosed l-citrulline and lack beta-alanine and creatine.

Pre Lab Pro only has one flavor, however, and a super low caffeine content compared to Pride, which would make it a better choice for those transitioning off of non-stim pre-workout. Finally, Pre Lab Pro is made from all natural ingredients, while Pride is sweetened with sucralose.

Customer Reviews

On Amazon, out of 757 people who chose to write a review, Pride pre-workout got a 4-out-of-5-star rating. Most positive reviews praise the lack of jitters or tingles due to the absence of beta alanine, but many complain about the taste.

On the official website for EHP Labs Pride Pre-workout, the product is rated an average of 4.62 out of 5 stars based on 775 verified reviews. Positive reviews report the 5-stage energy release really works, but like the Amazon reviews, negative feedback relates to flavor and effects.

Final Verdict of Our Pride Pre-Workout Review

Pride’s one-of-a-kind, 5 stage caffeine release blend seems to work marvelously based on feedback from our testers and verified customer reviews. However, the price and underdosing of some key ingredients are letdowns.

RELATED: BCAAs vs Pre-Workout: Do You Need Both?

That said, if money isn’t an object, it’s not common to see pre-workout supplements that have a nice caffeine content but no beta alanine, which could appeal to a specific group of people.

  • Pride advises against exceeding 2 scoops in a day, so be wary, overachievers!
  • There is a lot of controversy over the taste, and returning the product could be a hassle, so order with care.
