If you’re working on your first home gym set-up, or you’re looking to pick up some new equipment, one of your first priorities should be choosing one of the best weight benches. An adjustable weight bench can become the foundation for countless workouts and may become one of the most used pieces of equipment in your gym. However, with so many different benches on the market, all with seemingly similar features, it can be hard to figure out what kind of bench will suit your needs.

Adjustable benches usually offer a variety of incline settings and decline settings, but FLYBIRD has taken things even further with included attachments we haven’t seen from many other manufacturers. In this FLYBIRD Olympic Weight Bench review, we’ll help you decide whether this budget-friendly bench is overrated, or worth adding to your home gym.

Expert-Tested by GGR’s Founder

GGR’s testers are a team of diverse fitness professionals, including certified personal trainers, registered dietitians, gym owners, and even an Olympian. However, no one has spent more time testing equipment than GGR’s own founder, Cooper “Coop” Mitchell.

Coop spent time testing this bench, sharing his detailed feedback and opinion in a comprehensive video review. We carefully scored this bench according to our equipment testing methodology, which looks at specific features like:

  • Stability
  • Construction
  • Aesthetics
  • Stowability

Now, let’s dive in and see what Coop had to say about the FLYBIRD Olympic Weight Bench.

Product Highlights

  • 4 functional pieces of equipment in 1 product: Barbell rack, preacher curl bench, weight bench, and leg developer machine
  • Compact footprint measuring just 61 in long, 39 in wide, and 46 in high
  • Good weight capacity of 900 lbs (weight bench) and 220 lb (leg developer)
  • 8-position padded backrest
  • Constructed with alloy steel
  • 8 built-in storage posts

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Reports of being easy to assemble
  • Multifunctional
  • Compact design
  • 8-position backrest
  • Comparably affordable

Cons

  • Several customer complaints of wobbling bench
  • Weight limit may not be high enough for elite lifters

Bottom Line

The Flybird Olympic Weight Bench can be used as a barbell rack, preacher curl bench, leg developer, or adjustable weight bench with eight backrest positions to choose from.

A Quick Look at the FLYBIRD Olympic Weight Bench

FLYBIRD is known for making very affordable strength training equipment, including a basic adjustable bench, a Roman Chair Bench, racks, dumbbells, and more.

However, compared to the common FLYBIRD Adjustable Workout Bench FB149, this 4-in-1 Olympic bench is nearly double the cost, so before you spend your hard-earned money, you’ll want to make sure this bench is the right fit for you.

The bench includes an attachment for leg curls and leg extensions, a preacher curl attachment, and an adjustable bench press rack so you can perform incline and flat barbell bench presses. This is meant to allow users to get in a great full-body workout at home, assuming they already have a barbell and weight plates.

While these features are interesting to include, the attachments have a few flaws that make them difficult to use. Overall, this bench is decent if you’re really on a tight budget, but don’t expect much out of the leg curl, leg extension, and preacher curl features.

Before You Buy

  • While the FLYBIRD Olympic Weight Bench has multiple attachments to perform various exercises, many of them are poorly designed and hard to use.
  • The bench press rack, the main feature, is quite narrow, about the same width as standard knurling marks on a barbell, so you can only bench with a somewhat narrow grip.
  • The bench itself is fine, and for the price, this is surprisingly stable, but we wish the attachments were designed differently so they were easy to use.

FLYBIRD Olympic Weight Bench Video Review

Is the FLYBIRD Olympic Weight Bench Worth It?

Overall, the adjustable bench part itself is decent, but many of the features simply aren’t going to work well for very strong lifters, or those with larger frames, as the bench is small.

That said, if you’re a smaller individual or a beginner who’s not using large amounts of weight, this bench may still get the job done. The price is very competitive, ranging from $200-$300 depending on the current listing price. However, there are several design flaws with the various attachments, so this may not fit your needs.

Great for:

  • Anyone looking for a 4-in-1 bench that also includes leg extensions, leg curls, a preacher curl attachment, and a barbell rack
  • Smaller individuals, or those who bench press with a narrower grip
  • Those looking for a multipurpose bench on a strict budget

Not recommended for:

  • Those looking for a heavy-duty bench that’s wide enough to accommodate all bench press grips and users of all sizes
  • Intermediate to advanced lifters who want to use significant weight on leg extensions and curls
  • Those who want a foldable bench that’s easy to store

Workout Experience with the FLYBIRD Olympic Weight Bench

Coop tested every feature of this bench for our video review, loading it up with 20-kilogram Eleiko plates for the leg curl and leg extensions.

The FLYBIRD Olympic Weight Bench leg extension.

Overall, Coop felt the attachments were mostly for marketing purposes. Once he set up and tested the bench, many of the features simply didn’t work well, and most people wouldn’t be able to comfortably use the features.

This is a budget bench, and in this case, you get what you pay for.

J-Cup on the FLYBIRD Olympic Weight Bench.

We also need to call out safety. In his video review, Coop mentioned that the most dangerous exercise to perform alone is the bench press, which is why we always recommend using safety arms. However, even though this bench has a rack for the barbell, you can’t attach any safeties, so this is best for those who can train with a spotter every time.

Footprint and Stowability

Overall, the bench is smaller than it looks from the images, with dimensions of 61 inches in length, 39 inches in width, and 46 inches in height at the tallest setting. As Coop pointed out in the video review, it looks much bigger in images than it does once assembled.

Looking at the FLYBIRD Olympic Weight Bench.

However, given the design and function, which will usually involve weight plate storage and a barbell in the rack, it’s not meant to be folded and put away between uses. You can move it around with two people, as it only weighs 61 pounds, but it’s not designed for stowability.

Construction

The adjustable bench has eight different back positions, and there’s an included support bar you can use for extra support under the bench, which only has four positions. In Coop’s opinion, this bench shouldn’t be used without that support bar, as the adjustment bar on the bench pad itself feels weak.

Aside from a few design issues, the parts themselves feel pretty durable for the cost, so the bench scores a 3-out-of-5 for construction.

Coop adjusts the J-cup height on a FLYBIRD Olympic Weight Bench

The rack itself has five adjustable positions that require you to remove a screw to change the height. The rack position also doesn’t change, so as you change the incline of the bench, the starting position of the bar changes–at the highest incline, the bar is right in front of your head, rather than centered over your chest.

One positive feature is the fact that the plate-loaded leg extension/leg curl attachment uses a one-inch rod, which can be used for both standard plates and Olympic plates. Standard plates are often cheaper, and many people may already have them at home, so it’s nice to see that versatility.

RELATED: Best Weight Plates

The bench itself is rated for a max weight of 900 pounds, and the leg extension is rated for 220 lbs, while the rack itself is rated for 660 pounds. This should be more than enough for most recreational lifters, but it’s not quite 900 pounds if using a barbell. The frame is painted metal, rather than powder-coated, but that’s to be expected with a budget bench.

Adjustability

For adjustability, the FLYBIRD Olympic Weight Bench earns a 3-out-of-5 rating. It’s a full FID bench (flat, incline, decline), which makes it far more versatile than a flat bench, but the specs are deceiving. The backrest has eight positions, but Coop wouldn’t recommend using them without the support bar, which then only offers four positions, and there are no adjustable seat positions.

Coop adjusts the backrest on a FLYBIRD Olympic Weight Bench.

The rack height can be adjusted, but you’ll need to manually remove a screw to change the height, so it’s not the most convenient adjustable-height rack.

Portability

This bench isn’t meant to be portable, so it earns a 3-out-of-5 score. Even though it doesn’t have wheels or folding features, the bench only weighs 61 pounds, so it’s light enough to move out of the way with two people, but it’s not exactly convenient or easy.

Stability

When it comes to stability, Coop said the bench felt more stable than he expected, especially with plates loaded on the back of the rack and on the leg extension attachment, which eliminated most of the wobble. For stability, we give this a score of 3 out of 5.

Coop stands with the FLYBIRD Olympic Weight Bench.

The foam padding is somewhat cheap and is the same padding used in the more basic version of the FLYBIRD adjustable bench. You may shift around slightly more than with firmer, dense padding, but it still feels pretty stable, especially with weight plates on the bench.

Ergonomics

Ergonomics matter when choosing an adjustable bench, as you want to make sure to find one that feels good to use. After testing every feature, Coop had some critiques when it came to the usability of this bench, specifically the size and design of the attachments

The foam pads are one of the weak points and aren’t very comfortable with heavy weights. Coop recommends picking up some small towels to use for extra padding if you’re going to be doing heavy leg extensions. The range of motion for leg extensions is also limited, as you can lock out your legs, but it’s not going to be deep enough at the bottom to get a full stretch of your quads.

Coop tries doing curls with the FLYBIRD Olympic Weight Bench.

The included preacher curl attachment is also very narrow, making it nearly impossible to perform double-armed preacher curls. It works well enough if you’re doing single-arm curls, but that’s about all it’s good for. You also can’t go through a full range of motion when curling as the leg curl pad gets in the way, so the preacher curl attachment is only going to be usable for small individuals.

Finally, while the built-in rack may work for many lifters, the rack is very narrow, and the J-cups sit right outside where the knurling markers would be on a standard barbell. So, if you’re used to using a moderate to wide grip on your bench press, you won’t be able to bench with this rack.

Close look at coop gripping a barbell on the FLYBIRD Olympic Weight Bench.

The J-cups also have a small metal ridge in the middle for some reason, which Coop says will slowly grind down your barbell.

RELATED: Barbell Anatomy 101

Value

Even though the bench has its flaws, the price fluctuates between $200 to $300 with free shipping, far cheaper than most alternatives from popular brands like REP Fitness or Rogue.

It’s not the most high-quality bench, but the price is hard to beat, especially if you get it from FLYBIRD while the company is running a sale event with discount codes. For value, we give this a score of 4-out-of-5 simply for the low cost.

Product Highlights

  • High-value weight bench
  • Comes with a number of adjustment positions, including incline and decline, and a foot pad
  • Can hold up to 800 pounds of weight
  • Folds to around 30 inches
  • Should last a number of years

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Extremely affordable, at around $150
  • Only weighs 29 pounds, and it folds for easy storage
  • Offers decline and incline adjustment positions

Cons

  • Customers still complain of the bench being a bit too tall for some users
  • Max weight limit is 800 pounds, which may be too light some lifters
  • Pad gap between back and seat pad is around 2 inches

Bottom Line

An affordable, high-value, and compact weight bench, the FLYBIRD Adjustable Workout Bench is a great pick for those who aren't focused on lifting super-heavy weights.

Given that FLYBIRD is quite popular for its affordability, and we haven’t really seen a similar bench at a similar price point, let’s compare this to the standard FLYBIRD adjustable weight bench.

We’ll get straight to the point here, and say that unless you really want to use the leg extension, or you like the bench press rack and use a narrow grip when benching, the standard FLYBIRD is a better deal. It’s significantly cheaper, and while the Olympic Weight Bench has multiple attachments, most of them just don’t work very well.

For most people, the standard FLYBIRD Adjustable Bench is the better choice, and our testers like it so much that it was named in our guide to the best weight benches. However, if you really want the leg extension attachment, which is the only one that feels good to use, the Olympic Weight Bench will be the better choice.

Ordering and Assembling the FLYBIRD Olympic Weight Bench

If you order directly from FLYBIRD, you’ll receive free shipping, and you can split your order into multiple payments with Klarna if you’d like. The bench is also sold on Amazon, and both FLYBIRD and Amazon tend to offer fluctuating prices throughout the year.

FLYBIRD recommends that you have two people for assembly, and estimates the assembly will take about 40 minutes. The company also offers a detailed assembly instruction video if you find yourself stuck.

Customer Reviews

On the FLYBIRD website, the Olympic Weight Bench has an average rating of 4.8, based on 213 reviews at the time of writing. However, all the reviews are 4 to 5 stars, so they may be deleting negative reviews. The bench has a 4.4 rating on Amazon with 185 reviews, including several negative reviews.

Many users love the features, especially for the price, but others had similar observations to Coop, noting that the dimensions of the rack and various attachments made the bench very difficult to use.

Final Verdict of Our FLYBIRD Olympic Weight Bench Review

If you’re on a tight budget and want an adjustable weightlifting bench that has a barbell rack, leg extension, leg curl, and preacher curl attachment, this may get the job done. However, given that the actual design of these attachments makes them very difficult to use—plus the concerns we have about the lack of safety bars on this bench—it’s hard to recommend it over other competitors, or even the more simplified FLYBIRD bench.

If you must have the leg extension, which is the attachment that works the best, you may enjoy this. But if you’re planning on heavily using the preacher curl, leg curl, or you normally bench with a moderate to wide grip, you’re probably going to find this bench uncomfortable to use.

The best cycling shoes can make or break any ride. Yes, it is an extreme statement but true nonetheless. When it comes to cycling whether out on the road, your trainer, or a stationary bike, your feet are one of the three points of contact between you and your bike. It is your feet that support most of your body’s weight, provide stability, and are the only part of your body in contact with the bike pedals.   » Read more about: 6 Best Cycling Shoes (2025): Upgrade Your Ride With These Picks  »
