Wellah Protein Your Whey Review

For this Wellah Protein Your Whey review, we tried the product personally to determine if it meets our post-workout needs. With just five ingredients in the Your Whey formula, Wellah shows that protein powder doesn’t need to be clear whey to be clean.

RELATED: Best Clear Whey Protein Drinks

Using a variety of rich and tasty flavors, Wellah makes it easy for anyone to add protein to a shake or smoothie—whether you’re on a high-protein diet or just looking to increase your intake for general wellness. However, what did our testers think of the whey isolate? Let’s dive into our testing and find out.

From Protein Enthusiasts to Experts Alike, Our Team Knows the Whey

Our team of fitness professionals not only love protein, we’re experts on it. Every protein powder (or other dietary supplement) we review has been personally tested by GGR’s team of registered dietitians and personal trainers. Supplements are then evaluated and rated based on our unique supplement testing methodology, which includes these criteria and more:

  • Formulation: We look for high-quality, science-backed ingredients and whether the product includes clinically-supported dosages of them.
  • Taste: Because this is a subjective measure, we include our testers’ unfiltered thoughts, as well as online consumers’ takes. For unflavored whey, we share our findings on whether we really detected no flavor.
  • Solubility: When mixing a whey powder, we report whether the product dissolves completely or leaves an unfortunate clumpy residue.
  • Side effects: Did our testers experience any unwanted outcomes after consuming the whey powder? If so, we make sure to include this in our results.
  • Third-party testing: Dietary supplements are not FDA-regulated, so we rely on transparency and third-party testing from trusted organizations like NSF, Informed Sport, and BSCG, to determine if they’ve been proven to be safe.

Wellah’s Whey Protein contains only 5 ingredients and provides 20 grams of protein per serving. It is an affordable protein option at under $1.75 per serving but it also doesn’t contain as many grams of protein as many competitors. There are limited but positive customer reviews. Some customers were frustrated that the advertising was not clear about soy being present in the vanilla flavor.

What our tester says:

“It has a vanilla flavor that’s more on the milder side, but there is a slight ‘protein powder’ taste as well. It’s enjoyable overall, though not the best I’ve ever tasted.”

A Quick Look at Wellah Protein Your Whey

While there isn’t a lot of information available about the company itself, Wellah appears to be marketed toward active women in general, with a line of colorful sports supplements that includes pre-workout, creatine and l-glutamine. There are even “beauty bundles” that include collagen, superfood, and hydration products.

An open container of Wellah Protein Your Whey protein powder
An open container of Wellah Protein Your Whey protein powder

As far as the brand’s protein powder goes, it’s a great option for those who value short ingredient lists and a lack of artificial sweeteners, flavors, or sweeteners.

Before You Buy

  • It is unclear if the product is non-GMO or gluten-free.
  • Wellah Protein Your Whey is by no means a mass gainer.
  • This whey isolate does not contain probiotics, creatine, or other synergistic ingredients to help build muscle.

Is Wellah Protein Your Whey Worth It?

The price is a bit higher than the market average, but that is typical for whey isolate with a brief ingredient list. This protein powder may very well be worth it depending on how much you value a lack of artificial ingredients and sweeteners.

Great for:

  • People who avoid artificial ingredients
  • Individuals on a cut who need a low-calorie protein source
  • Those more comfortable ordering with a money-back guarantee

Not recommended for:

  • Those who dislike products with stevia
  • A hard gainer who needs extra calories
  • Individuals who need an unflavored protein powder option

Experience Using Wellah Protein Your Whey

Our expert product tester had a generally positive experience using Wellah Protein Your Whey post-workout as they generally enjoyed the taste when mixed with milk and didn’t experience any side effects. However, there were some issues with solubility.

Price Per Serving

For about $50 for 30 servings, Wellah protein powder comes out to about $1.66 per serving, which makes it a decently affordable protein source to help one increase their protein intake. So, we rated the price a 3.5 out of 5.

Formulation

We rated the formulation of Wellah protein a 4.5 out of 5, mostly due to the fact that each flavor only contains five ingredients, none of which are artificial. Though the ingredient list varies depending on flavor, every tub contains at least stevia, natural flavors, whey protein isolate, and Himalayan rock salt for both flavor and hydration.

The main protein source is whey isolate, which has been shown to cause a highly anabolic response, which helps people build muscle and support better workout recovery when combined with a diet high in food sources that are rich in BCAAs like animal protein and legumes.

Finally, Wellah has great macros at 20 grams of protein for only 100 calories, which can be great for weight control. “Excess protein powder consumption can result in weight gain, whereas mindful protein consumption can help reduce weight. Many people feel full after eating protein powder, which makes them consume fewer calories,” says GGR’s medical advisor Dr. Raj Dasgupta, MD, FACP, FCCP, FAASM.

Indeed, studies done on resistance training athletes have shown that whey isolate protein supplements significantly reduce1 feelings of hunger. Dr. Dasgupta continues, “By substituting protein shakes for higher-calorie meals and snacks, you can reduce your overall calorie intake, thereby speeding up weight loss, especially when you combine it with diet and exercise.”

Taste and Solubility

“My first impression of Wellah’s vanilla whey protein powder was that it had a distinct ‘protein powder’ smell,” our expert tester reported. “It has a mild vanilla flavor that is not overpowering and does not have an overwhelming taste. For the amount of liquid added, there was a slight ‘protein powder’ taste to the product. Although not my favorite drink, it wasn’t unpleasant and left no bad aftertaste.” Based on this feedback, we awarded a rating of 3.5 out of 5 for taste.

As far as solubility, that fared slightly better with a rating of 4 out of 5. “There are no clumps at the bottom of the shaker, so it appears even and well-mixed,” our tester says after trying it with different liquids and containers.

“When it’s poured into a cup and stirred, however, some foam and grit appear on top,” she added. “Mixing it with water results in a thin, grainy mixture. But mixed with milk, it’s one of the best protein powders I’ve tried. It has a subtle, tasty flavor that feels neither overpowering nor artificial.”

Side Effects

We rated Wellah a 5 out of 5 for side effects, as our tester didn’t experience anything negative, nor did we notice any reports of negative effects in consumer comments. That said, your mileage may vary. Dr. Raj Dasgupta offers this warning: “Protein powder is not recommended for people with kidney problems, dairy allergies, soy allergies (as with plant-based protein) or sensitive stomachs.”

RELATED: Whey Protein Side Effects

“It is important to pick trusted brands because some might contain harmful additives,” Dr. Dasgupta adds. “You should also discuss supplement use with a doctor if you’re pregnant or nursing.”

Third-Party Testing

We gave a rating of a 2 out of 5 here because Wellah Protein Your Whey is not third-party tested by a recognized lab. That said, there is a short ingredient list of clean ingredients, and the protein powder is processed in an NSF Certified, GMP-Compliant facility along with being tested for safety by independent ISO-accredited laboratories.

If you are willing to pay a premium price for a high-quality grass-fed whey protein, the Momentous brand is a solid choice. It is cold-pressed and put through a micro-processing filtration that’s supposed to preserve the protein’s amino acid profile. While we cannot confirm that, we know it tastes darn good and did not upset any stomachs during testing.

What our tester says:

“It was OK with water, but very good when mixed with milk. With milk, the Vanilla protein reminded me of vanilla bean ice cream.”

Both of these brands use clean ingredients, and both products are gluten-free and may work for some people with lactose intolerance due to the presence of digestive enzymes. Both brands have nearly identical macros, along with only 100 calories per scoop.

The big difference is the price, however—Momentous costs nearly $3 per serving, which is, to be blunt, pretty astronomical. Momentous also doesn’t have as many flavor options as Wellah Protein. That said, unlike Wellah, Momentous uses grass-fed whey protein and is third-party tested by Informed Sport and NSF, so it’s safe to use for athletes.

Final Verdict of Our Wellah Protein Your Whey Review

Wellah Protein Your Whey’s whey protein isolate is generally well-liked by online consumers, and our tester had a generally positive experience using it, as well. We loved the formulation that boasts a short ingredient list and 20 grams of protein per serving, which is super useful for maintaining a high-protein diet.

That said, it may not be ideal for those who have a very high protein intake or who are on a tight budget. Furthermore, it’s not certified by Informed Choice or NSF for Sport, so athletes should check with a dietitian before utilizing it for their workout recovery.

Wellah Protein Your Whey

Wellah’s Whey Protein contains only 5 ingredients and provides 20 grams of protein per serving. It is an affordable protein option at under $1.75 per serving but it also doesn’t contain as many grams of protein as many competitors. There are limited but positive customer reviews.
