Jocko Molk Protein Shake Review

With so many bottled protein shakes on the market, it’s easy to assume they’re all more or less the same. But according to leading nutrition experts, that’s far from the truth.

“Manufacturers may use lower-quality protein sources or cheaper ingredients that have excessive amounts of added sugar, artificial flavors, and fats, impacting the overall quality of the shakes,” says Dr. Christopher Mohr, PhD, RD.

That’s where Jocko Molk stands out. Among top contenders like Transparent Labs and Premier Protein, it topped our best protein shakes of 2025 round-up thanks to its high protein content, quality ingredients, and lack of artificial sweeteners.

But does it deserve a spot in your fridge or gym bag? In this Jocko Molk Protein Shake review, we reveal how this pre-made beverage performs across taste, texture, ingredients, and overall value—so you can decide if it’s worth your fridge’s real estate.

100+ Protein Powders and Shakes Rigorously Tested, Rated, and Reviewed

GGR’s testing team of certified personal trainers, registered dietitians, nutrition coaches, and strength specialists has tested over 100 protein powders—including over 20 ready-to-drink shakes—to separate the yuck from the yum and weed out low-quality swill from premium formulas.

Every scoop and shake runs through our GGR supplement testing methodology, which helps us score products across key factors such as:

  • Price per serving: We rate cost based on industry norms, awarding top marks to products under $1.50 per serving. Higher-priced options must justify their premium price tag through superior ingredients, proven benefits, or added performance perks.
  • Ingredients and formulation: We prioritize protein powders and shakes that deliver at least 20 grams of clean, high-quality protein per serving with minimal fillers. Bonus points go to formulas that include beneficial extras like digestive enzymes or BCAAs.
  • Protein source: Complete protein sources—such as whey, casein, egg white, and thoughtfully-combined plant proteins—score highest in our reviews. Products relying on incomplete proteins without complementary ingredients receive lower marks.
  • Taste: Our ratings reflect taste tests from our expert testers alongside thousands of customers, focusing on enjoyable flavors without unpleasant aftertastes. Shakes that are easy to drink daily, whether classic or adventurous in flavor profile, earn top scores.
  • Texture: Ready-to-drink shakes don’t face solubility issues like powders, but texture can still vary widely from one profile to the next. We consider whether shakes feel too thin, watery, or thick and creamy, since mouthfeel can impact overall enjoyment.
  • Side effects: Most protein shakes cause minimal side effects, but some users may experience gastrointestinal discomfort like bloating or gas. Ingredients like lactose or sugar alcohols often underlie these issues, so we take note of their presence.
  • Third-party testing: Since dietary supplements aren’t FDA-regulated, we highly value independent third-party testing from trusted certifiers like NSF Certified for Sport, Informed Sport, or BSCG. Transparency about ingredients and the absence of proprietary blends are also contributing factors.

Jocko Molk pre-made protein shakes offer 30 grams of protein per serving with little thought on your end—all you need to do is grab it and go. This ready-to-go shake is formulated with whey from grass-fed cows and is sweetened with monk fruit. It’s keto-friendly with 4.5 grams of fat and only 5 grams of carbohydrates.

What our tester says:

“I’ve been drinking it instead of a second cup of coffee each morning. I’m getting more protein earlier in the day.”

A Quick Look at Jock Molk Protein Shakes

Jocko Willink—a retired Navy SEAL, best-selling author, and leadership expert—has built a supplement brand to fuel your progress with clean ingredients and intentional formulas. The Jocko Fuel lineup includes Jocko Molk protein powder with digestive enzymes and probiotics, creatine, energy and hydrate drinks, protein cookies, and greens powders—which we covered in our Jocko Greens Review.

Now, we’re focusing on one of the brand’s standout products: Jocko Molk protein shakes, delivering 30 grams of high-quality protein per serving to support muscle health, strength, and recovery. These ready-to-drink (RTD) bottles are also sugar-free, keto-friendly, and free from artificial ingredients.

But before you grab a bottle, there are a few key things to know.

Before You Buy

  • One flavor—Sweet Cream Coffee—contains 85 milligrams of caffeine per bottle, roughly the same as a small cup of coffee. The other flavors are caffeine-free, making them a smarter choice for evening sips or late-night recovery.
  • Jocko Molk is also available as a protein powder, which may offer more value per serving as well as a wider range of flavors—including Jocko Mölk Chocolate Peanut Butter, Cookies & Cream, and Strawberry Milkshake. If you prefer customizing your shakes, adjusting sweetness or texture, or stretching your budget, the powder could be the better fit—especially if portability isn’t a priority.

Are Jocko Molk Protein Shakes Worth It?

At $3.75 per bottle, Jocko Molk protein shakes aren’t the most budget-friendly option. However, their high-protein formulation may justify the price for many users.

Great for:

  • Those wanting a quick, convenient protein boost for post-workout muscle recovery or to support satiety between meals
  • Anyone seeking a low-carb, sugar-free protein drink, including those following a keto diet
  • People who prioritize clean formulas without artificial sweeteners, flavors, and colors

Not recommended for:

  • Individuals who are plant-based, lactose-intolerant, or allergic to dairy
  • Those looking for a full meal replacement—at just 180 calories per shake, it’s likely insufficient for most people’s needs
  • Athletes or ingredient-conscious consumers who prefer products with recognizable third-party certifications for banned substances, purity, and label accuracy

Experience Using Jocko Molk Protein Shakes

Anthony O’Reilly, CPT, CNC, tested Jocko Molk protein shakes for this review. While the Banana Cream flavor didn’t quite win him over, and the texture left a bit to be desired, he was impressed overall by the shake’s robust protein profile and clean formulation.

But that’s just a snapshot of his experience, so let’s dive deeper into what Jocko Molk protein shakes can really bring to the yard.

Price Per Serving

Jocko Molk protein shakes cost $44.99 for a 12-bottle pack, or roughly $3.75 per bottle. With a 10% subscription discount, the price drops to $40.49, or $3.37 per bottle.

As Anthony explains, “According to our testing methodology, this is a middle-of-the-road cost per serving, even when you sign up for repeat orders.” As such, Jocko Molk earns a 3-out-of-5 rating in this category. Still, while it’s not the cheapest option, the high-quality formulation may justify the price for many users.

Formulation

With 180 calories, 30 grams of grass-fed protein, and just 4 to 5 grams of fat and carbs (depending on the flavor), Jocko Molk shakes offer a well-rounded macro profile—especially for a ready-to-drink option. Anthony O’Reilly, CPT, CNC notes, “In my experience, pre-made protein shakes typically carry higher carb and fat counts than your standard protein powder.” While Molk does include small amounts of each, he adds, “The 30 grams of protein per serving is impressive.”

That protein comes from a blend of milk protein concentrate1 and calcium caseinate2—two dairy-based proteins that support Jocko’s claim of a “time-release blend.” Milk protein concentrate contains both whey protein (fast-digesting) and casein protein (slow-digesting), while calcium caseinate is particularly known for its slow absorption and longer-lasting satiety. The protein blend delivers a complete amino acid profile, as well, to support muscle repair, recovery, and daily protein requirements.

When it comes to sweetness, Jocko keeps it clean by skipping artificial additives in favor of natural, no-calorie options like monk fruit extract and reb-M—a stevia-derived sweetener. To give the shakes a smoother, more satisfying sip, they also contain natural flavors, sea salt, and texture enhancers like organic locust bean gum and gellan gum.

Taste and Texture

Anthony tried the Banana Cream flavor and found it “a bit thin,” which isn’t surprising given that water is the first ingredient. The flavor reminded him of a light banana pudding—pleasant, though not particularly rich. He noted a subtle “protein” aftertaste, as well, but nothing overpowering or off-putting. Overall, he rated the taste at 3.5 out of 5.

Our testers each enjoying a bottle of Jocko Molk protein shake
Our testers each enjoying a bottle of Jocko Molk protein shake

As for texture, Anthony also rated this pre-made shake at 3.5 out of 5. He described it as “thin and somewhat watered down,” adding that it left “a thin film around my mouth, which caused the flavor to linger until I drank from my water bottle.” While he appreciated the 30 grams of protein per serving, he noted, “I’d likely choose a regular protein powder over this Jocko sample solely for the texture.”

RELATED: Best-Tasting Protein Bars

That said, taste and texture can be highly subjective. Kate Meier, certified personal trainer and member of the GGR editorial team, has sampled every Jocko Molk flavor and prefers the Sweet Cream Coffee. “It tastes like an iced latte and gives you the same amount of caffeine as a standard 8-ounce cup of Joe,” she says. In fact, she’s swapped her second morning coffee for it to get more protein earlier in the day.

Side Effects

Anthony reported no adverse effects while testing this protein shake, giving it a perfect 5 out of 5 in the category.

However, individual responses can vary. Those with dairy allergies or lactose intolerance should steer clear, as this shake contains milk-based ingredients and may not be suitable for sensitive individuals.

Third-Party Testing

The brand indicates that Jocko Molk shakes undergo independent testing, which is a positive sign for quality and safety. However, we were unable to find specific information about the accrediting lab or certifying body.

As Anthony notes, “It’s a nice mark and should be good for most, but competitive athletes subject to drug testing may want more reassurance from a recognized institution [such as NSF Certified for Sport or Informed-Sport].”

For these reasons, we rate the third-party testing at 3 out of 5—a solid effort that leaves room for greater transparency.

Slate Protein Shakes are canned high-protein drinks, each packed with 20 grams of protein. Along with having a good amount of protein, these shakes have been made with ultra-filtered milk to make them lactose-free. Also, no sugars were added to the drinks, being sweetened with stevia and monk fruit.

What our tester says:

“This reminds me of the chocolate milk I used to drink as a kid. Good stuff.”

Like Jocko Molk, Slate protein shakes deliver a quick, convenient dose of protein without added sugars or artificial ingredients. Both are shelf-stable and sweetened with monk fruit and reb-M, but key differences set them apart:

  • Protein content and source: Jocko Molk provides 30 grams of protein per 12-ounce bottle from a blend of milk protein concentrate and calcium caseinate. Slate offers 20 grams per 11-ounce can, sourced from ultra-filtered skim milk.
  • Calories, carbs, and fat: Jocko Molk contains 180 calories, 4 grams of carbs, and 4.5 grams of fat per bottle. Slate is lighter, with 100 to 110 calories (depending on flavor), 4 to 15 grams of carbs, and up to 1 gram of fat per can.
  • Additional benefits: Slate includes the lactase enzyme to aid with lactose digestion alongside vitamin D3 for bone health. While Jocko’s protein powder features digestive enzymes and probiotics, these extras are not included in the shakes.
  • Caffeine content: Several Slate flavors contain 175 milligrams of caffeine. By comparison, only Jocko Molk’s Sweet Cream Coffee flavor has caffeine at a lower 95 milligrams per serving.
  • Taste: Though taste is subjective, Slate was our top pick as the best-tasting protein shake in previous round-ups.
  • Packaging and convenience: Jocko comes in resealable bottles, while Slate uses recyclable cans—portable, yes, but not resealable.
  • Third-party testing: Jocko Molk shakes undergo third-party testing (certifying lab not specified), whereas Slate currently lacks third-party certification.
  • Cost: Jocko Molk retails at $3.75 per bottle, while Slate is more budget-friendly at $2.99 per can.

Customer Experience

Jocko Fuel offers a fairly robust FAQ section and can be reached through its contact form or directly at hello@jockofuel.com for additional support. The brand also aims to enhance your customer experience with perks like a rewards program, military discounts, and frequent promotions.

However, due to safety concerns with consumable products, Jocko Fuel does not accept returns unless your order arrives damaged or defective. In those cases, you can email customer service to request a refund or replacement.

Because of this, we rate the customer experience at 3 out of 5. We feel the brand is offering solid perks but with room to improve, particularly around returns and refunds, since most supplement companies tend to accommodate them.

Final Verdict of Our Jocko Molk Protein Shake Review

Jocko Molk protein shakes offer a keto-friendly, clean protein option with convenience and quality in mind. Here’s what to know before officially adding it to your fridge or best gym bag:

  • Delivers 30 grams of protein and 180 calories per 12-ounce bottle, ideal for post-workout recovery or between-meal satiety.
  • Combines milk protein concentrate and calcium caseinate for fast- and slow-digesting proteins, providing a complete amino acid profile, sustained muscle recovery, and prolonged fullness.
  • Sweetened naturally with monk fruit and reb-M, and is free from artificial sweeteners and flavors.
  • Third-party tested, though the certifying lab isn’t disclosed, and no banned substance screening is noted—a key consideration for competitive athletes.
  • Features a lighter, somewhat thin flavor and texture that some may enjoy, while others might prefer the richness of traditional powders.
  • Priced at $3.75 per bottle, placing it in the mid-range of pre-made protein shakes—not the cheapest, but its robust protein content and quality ingredients may justify the investment.
