We gave the sugar-free Ritual pregnancy protein powder formulation a perfect 5 out of 5 rating. Each serving contains 20 grams of pea protein, a plant-based protein that includes all nine essential amino acids. Pea protein is relatively low in the amino acid methionine, so Ritual added it in to make for a more complete amino acid profile. Research suggests1 that protein needs rise by about 15 to 20 grams per day while lactating, a target that can be met with just one serving of Ritual’s pregnancy and postpartum shake.

The protein shake also features 250 milligrams of choline, an important nutrient that supports the developing brain of the baby. Choline needs increase during and after pregnancy.
