Iafelice says to steer clear of any protein powders that use artificial sweeteners or flavors. He recommends whey protein powder for most people since it has the lowest allergenicity of any protein.

“Whether isolate or concentrate doesn’t matter, though isolate is better for lactose intolerance,” Iafelice says.

That said, if you find dairy upsets your stomach you could find a plant-based type of protein powder. Just be sure it has enough protein for you and the baby.
