RYSE Supplements has quickly become one of the most popular supplement brands, and its products are sold at many major retailers, like Wal-Mart, The Vitamin Shoppe, Amazon, and even 7-Eleven. When a brand becomes this popular, it’s usually for a good reason, so we were excited to test RYSE’s Loaded Protein for ourselves.

As you may know, the best protein powder is a great supplement to use for any health and wellness goal…but finding one you love isn’t easy, which is why we test as many as possible to find the best of the best.

If you’re struggling to decide which protein to try next, I’ve got you covered. In this RYSE protein powder review, I’ll share my experience with this popular protein. I’ll let you know how it tastes and mixes, what I think of the ingredients, what our proprietary lab testing results showed, and whether or not RYSE Loaded protein is worth a try.

Tested by a Certified Nutrition Coach

Here at GGR, our testers are a diverse team of experts, including registered dietitians, certified nutrition coaches, certified personal trainers, and gym owners. Most of us regularly use protein powder, so when it comes to testing and rating protein, this isn’t our first rodeo.

For this review, I personally used and tested RYSE Loaded Protein Powder. I drank multiple shakes over the course of a week and calculated a final score using our supplement testing methodology, which looks at specific aspects of a given protein, including:

  • Taste
  • Formulation
  • Solubility
  • Third-Party testing
  • Side effects

A Quick Look at RYSE Loaded Protein Powder

RYSE Supplements was founded in 2017 by Nic Stella, and while the company only offered a few select products when it entered the market, it now offers a wide range of supplements. The company now offers pre-workout powders, BCAAs, energy drinks (available in many retail stores and gas stations), electrolytes, and the subject of this review, protein powder.

One interesting thing about RYSE is the flavor collaborations they use in many of the best-selling products. Similar to brands like Ghost and Dymatize, RYSE has partnered with a wide variety of brands to manufacture authentic flavors, including Country Time, Jet-Puffed, Kool-Aid, Little Debbie, Ring Pop, Skippy, and more.

RYSE Loaded Protein’s primary ingredient is whey isolate, a protein commonly used for its fast absorption speed, though it also contains whey concentrate. Each serving contains a full 25 grams of protein. It’s slightly more expensive than other brands, costing $1.48-$1.90 per serving depending on the size you order, but the flavors and quality are fantastic.

Before You Buy

  • Much of RYSE’s marketing makes it seem like this is a whey isolate product, but it’s actually a blend of whey isolate and concentrate.
  • We only tested one flavor, Jet-Puffed Marshmallow, but they did a fantastic job with the flavors, and many reviews also compliment the various flavors.
  • The protein contains MCT oil and artificial sweeteners, which may deter some from using it.

Is RYSE Loaded Protein Powder Worth It?

RYSE protein powder falls right in the middle of the price range. This may be a great protein option for specific people, but others will want to avoid this protein.

Recommended for:

  • Those interested in trying RYSE’s authentic collaboration flavors
  • People who are currently focused on building muscle
  • Anyone who loves sweet protein powders

Not recommended for:

  • People looking to avoid artificial sweeteners
  • Anyone looking for a pure whey isolate protein
  • Those who want the lowest-calorie protein option

Experience Using RYSE Loaded Protein Powder

I purchased this product in the Jet-Puffed Marshmallow and made six protein shakes, testing it with water, almond milk, and non-fat Fairlife milk.

A scoop of RYSE Protein Powder is next to the container and a shake.

Overall, I was very impressed with the texture and nutritional content, which varies based on the flavor. Twenty-five grams of protein for 130 to 150 calories is right in line with many other protein powders and should work well for most fitness goals. You can certainly find protein options with fewer calories, but 130 isn’t unreasonable given the additional ingredients.

RELATED: The Best Protein Powder for Weight Loss

I ordered the marshmallow flavor as that was the best-selling flavor and the one we independently lab-tested. I enjoyed it, but as someone who doesn’t really like overly sweet tastes, it was a bit sweet for my preference. However, I had someone who does enjoy sweets try this, and even though they don’t usually like protein shakes, they loved the flavor of this one.

I plan on trying this protein powder again in a different flavor, but this was just too sweet for me to drink on a regular basis.

Price Per Serving

I paid $41.20 for a 27-serving container on Amazon, bringing the price per serving to $1.52, a 3 out of 5 based on our testing methodology.

RYSE sells the tubs in 20-serving, 27-serving, and 54-serving options, with prices ranging from $1.48 to $1.90 depending on the size. It’s not the most expensive protein we’ve tested, but it’s certainly not the cheapest.

I wouldn’t let the price deter you if any of the flavors seem particularly interesting. However, if none of the flavors stand out, there are plenty of other protein powders that are more affordable.

Formulation

The formulation of RYSE Loaded Protein Powder receives a 4-out-of-5 rating.

With 25 grams of protein per scoop, each serving ranges from 130 to 150 calories per serving depending on the flavor you choose. That’s a bit high compared to pure whey isolates which have an average calorie count of 110-120, but RYSE uses a blend of whey isolate and concentrate and has added medium-chain triglycerides, or MCTs, and prebiotic fiber.

MCTs are healthy fats that have been shown1 to have a moderate impact on weight loss and improved body composition without negatively impacting lipid profiles.

The prebiotic fiber, organic agave inulin was added to support digestive health and reduce bloating, and research shows2 it may have a positive impact on the gut microbiome.

RYSE also uses sucralose and acesulfame potassium, which may bother some who prefer to avoid artificial sweeteners.

RELATED: Best Protein Powder Without Artificial Sweeteners

I also want to call out one small problem I have with RYSE’s marketing. Many of the images used on various sales pages clearly state “25 grams of whey isolate,” but when you look at the ingredients, the protein contains two types of protein powder, whey isolate and concentrate, and the ratio isn’t disclosed anywhere.

According to Chelsea Rae Bourgeois, MS, RDN, LD, whey protein isolate has more grams of protein than the same amount of whey concentrate, which means it also has fewer carbs and fats. Whey isolate also has a lower lactose content and may be easier to digest.

This isn’t the worst thing, as you’re still getting 25 grams of protein, but I don’t like how they’ve implied this is a whey protein isolate supplement, as whey isolate is considered one of the highest-quality protein sources.

Taste and Solubility

For the overall flavor, I give this a 4-out-of-5 rating. The flavor is very sweet, with a strong vanilla flavor and an aftertaste that immediately reminds me of marshmallow fluff. Now, I don’t love vanilla or marshmallow, but I still give this a 4-star rating because RYSE absolutely nailed the marshmallow flavor, and marshmallow fans will really enjoy this.

Other reviews also mentioned overly sweet flavors, but taste is very subjective.

For solubility, this protein earns a 4.5-out-of-5 rating. There were very small floaters even after I mixed this with a blender ball, but overall, it was quite smooth in both milk and water. I also blended a scoop into a smoothie, and there was no gritty protein texture at all.

Typically whey protein isolates are pretty thin, but the added MCT oil gives this protein a slightly thicker, creamier texture than many other whey proteins I’ve tried.

Side Effects

For side effects, I didn’t notice any issues at all, so this receives a 5-out-of-5 star rating.

Many protein powders with high lactose contents, like casein, whey concentrate, or various blends often bother my stomach, and this one was totally fine.

The product does contain dairy and medium-chain triglycerides, which may be irritating if you have a sensitive digestive system.

Third-Party Testing

For third-party testing, RYSE Loaded Protein earns a 3 out of 5.

Typically, we like to see third-party testing to ensure both label accuracy and product purity.hile RYSE doesn’t disclose any specific third-party testing from major organizations, the Amazon listing does say the protein was tested multiple times.

However, we also conducted our own third-party testing with an independent, accredited lab, Ellipse Analytics, which tested more than 150 protein powders for purity (heavy metals) and label accuracy (protein content). The Jet-Puffed Marshmallow flavor was tasted, which is the flavor I tested at home, but we haven’t lab-tested the other flavors.

The test results were scored as Excellent, which means RYSE protein powder was in the top 10% of all the products we tested.

GGR collaborated with Ellipse Analytics, an accredited third-party lab, to test more than 150 protein powders. We screened for dozens of factors and rated each product against its peers. Excellent indicates the top 10% of products; Above Average is the top 25% of products; and Meets Standard is the top 50%.

Customer Experience

RYSE accepts returns, but products must be unopened, and you need to pay for your own return shipping—this is less than ideal. You can reach customer support via email at info@rysesupps.com, or submit a contact form through the website.

RYSE is available in-store at a variety of retailers, so your return policy may vary based on the retailer, as RYSE only accepts returns purchased directly from the company website.

I submitted a message through their contact form to ask about the ratio of whey protein isolate vs concentrate so I could add that to the formulation section of this review, and at the time of writing, about 48 hours have gone by without receiving an answer.

Overall, the customer experience earns a 2-out-of-5-star rating.

Ordering RYSE Loaded Protein Powder

If you order directly from RYSE, you’ll receive free shipping on orders over $150, so you’d have to place a pretty large order to get free shipping. I ordered mine from Amazon, and the protein was cheaper than the price on RYSE’s website and included free Prime shipping.

RYSE Loaded Protein Powder

Shipping costs from the company itself will depend on your location, but for reference, I currently live in Las Vegas, and the cheapest shipping option is $9.94 for a single tub of protein. That’s…not great.

You can use PayPal checkout to order your protein, but I didn’t see any options to finance your order.

Customer Reviews

On the RYSE website, Loaded Protein has a 4.9-out-of-5 star rating with 8,153 reviews, and a 4.5 out of 5 on Amazon with 4,227 reviews.

Most reviewers say the flavors are very impressive and accurate, though a few mention that some of the flavors are a bit too sweet, which was my experience as well with the marshmallow flavor.

Final Verdict of Our RYSE Loaded Protein Powder Review

This is a high-quality protein powder that’s certainly worth considering, especially if you don’t mind the artificial sweeteners and slightly higher calorie content. RYSE has some of the most interesting protein flavors on the market thanks to its authentic flavor collaborations, and I can’t wait to try some of the other flavors.

It has a smooth, creamy texture, a decent calorie content, and plenty of protein per scoop. If you’re a fan of any of the products they’ve used to create the various flavors, this is definitely worth a try.

  • Each serving contains 25 grams of protein and 130 to150 calories.
  • The protein uses a blend of whey isolate and concentrate, though the ratio of each type isn’t disclosed.
  • The price is a little high, but the flavors are very good.
