For this Legion Genesis Greens review, we had Kate Meier, senior director of content at GGR, test it out. Legion is known for its natural pre-workout Legion Pulse and tasty whey protein powder, so we wanted to see what their greens dietary supplement was all about.

The best greens powders can be a great way to easily get in your antioxidants and veggies to supplement your diet if the taste, price, and dosages are right. So, how does Genesis stack up? It’s not the cheapest greens powder in the world so, is it worth it? Let’s find out.

A Quick Look at Legion Genesis Greens Review

Legion Athletics is one of our favorite brands due to their reputation of using quality ingredients in their pre-workout, multivitamin, and whey and casein protein powder (which we’ve ranked among the best-tasting protein powders). In addition, Legion is widely known for its clinically effective doses backed by science that they cite right on the product page and formulation transparency without proprietary blends, fillers, or artificial ingredients.

Before You Buy

  • Greens powders like Genesis are a great way to help get some veggies in while you clean up your diet, but remember that food should be the priority, as any dietitian will tell you.
  • Genesis Greens is not available for purchase on Amazon.

Is Legion Genesis Greens Worth It?

While it doesn’t contain probiotics or a large variety of greens, this greens powder is all-natural, third-party tested, and better tasting than most. It is a bit costly at $1.99 a serving, but if you value high-quality ingredients without all of the extra junk, we’d say it’s worth it.

Great for:

  • People who avoid fillers, artificial sweeteners, and artificial flavors in their supplements
  • Those looking for a greens powder with a different flavor option
  • People who like an adaptogen-heavy greens powder

Not recommended for:

  • People who take greens powder for gut health or help with bloating
  • Those on a tight supplement budget
  • Individuals looking for a ton of ingredients in their greens

Experience Using Legion Genesis Greens

Kate Meier, GGR senior director of content, tested Genesis and loved it overall. “I’m not usually a greens person but this is pretty good,” says Kate. “It tastes better than most greens I’ve tried, and I like that it’s third-party tested and backed by research.”

Price Per Serving

Legion Greens is a bit on the pricey side, so Kate rated it a 3 out of 5 for being $1.99 per serving for 30 servings. Depending on how much you purchase, whether you get the acai berry flavor or unflavored, or if you enroll in subscribe and save, the price comes out to $2.25 and above on the high end and less than $1.15 on the low end.

Formulation

We gave a 4 out of 5 rating for formulation. The powder is heavy on adaptogens rather than greens and does not contain probiotics or digestive enzymes. These both help smooth digestion and reduce bloating, which is a big reason most people take greens powder.

That said, there are no proprietary blends and the ingredients are evidence-based and in effective doses which, believe it or not, is rare for a green superfood powder. Here are the highlights of the formulation:

Legion Greens supplement Facts label

Reishi Mushroom: Used in traditional Chinese medicine as a wellness ingredient for thousands of years, reishi mushroom has been shown to support the immune system of active individuals1.

Organic Spirulina: Spirulina is a blue-green algae that contains the antioxidant phycocyanin which is part of a group of phytonutrients that promotes wellness by fighting inflammation, boosting heart health2 and helping to reduce muscular damage from exercise3

Astragalus Membranaceus: A Chinese herb that contains phytonutrients that can help boost energy levels by helping to reduce oxidative stress4 in the body’s cells.

Angelica Sinensis (Dong Quai): Known as Dong Quai in Traditional Chinese Medicine, Angelica sinensis is often combined with Astragalus membranaceus to support the immune system, boost energy levels, overall health and heart health, according to studies5.

Maca Root Powder: Maca is a Peruvian plant that has been shown to help with blood flow, especially for performance in…certain “physical activities” outside of the gym6

Taste and Solubility

Kate rated Legion Greens 4 out of 5 in taste after trying the acai berry flavor. “It’s actually OK. It tastes like berry-flavored greens powders,” Kate says. “I was able to drink the entire serving without gagging! It was pretty enjoyable.” High praise for a greens powder supplement!

RELATED: Super Greens Powder Benefits

We gave it a 4.5 out of 5 in solubility. “Blends great,” Kate says, but she did have one gripe: “Only dinging it because you have to stir for a while to get it all to dissolve. If you blended it, it would be fine.”

Side Effects

Kate gave it a 5 out of 5 as she didn’t get any side effects and didn’t notice anyone reporting side effects in the customer reviews.

Third-Party Testing

We gave Legion Genesis Green a 5 out of 5 rating in this category as it has been tested by Labdoor which ensures that the dosages of ingredients listed in the nutrition label are the dosages of ingredients present in the product.

Compared to supplements that are NSF-certified or tested by Informed Choice, Labdoor does not receive recognition from professional athletic associations due to its insufficient testing for banned substances. Thus, if you are an athlete, take Legion Genesis Green to your registered dietitian to see if it’s appropriate for you.

Legion Genesis Greens vs Athletic Greens

Athletic Greens

Athletic Greens AG1

GGR Score: 4.25 starstarstarstarstar

Product Highlights

  • Contains 75 minerals and nutrients in one serving
  • Available in travel pouches and bundle and save options
  • Said to support gut health with prebiotics, probiotics, and naturally occuring enzymes
  • Supports immunity with key ingredients like vitamin C and mushrooms
  • Magnesium is added to boost energy
  • May aid in recovery as it features superfood complex with adaptogens and antioxidants

Pros & Cons

Pros

  • Backed by notable health experts
  • Transparent and detailed ingredient list
  • 75 vitamins and minerals

Cons

  • Expensive
  • Some reviewers dislike the taste

Bottom Line

If you’re looking for a greens powder with a unique blend of minerals, nutrients, power greens, enzymes, and probiotics and you're willing to spend some money, Athletic Greens may be a good choice for you.

We’ve reviewed Athletic Greens, or AG1, in the past, and since both brands offer a dietary supplement that has minimal fillers and quality ingredients, we wanted to compare them. Athletic Greens is much more pricey than Legion, but contains significantly more micronutrients and whole food sourced ingredients which would be way more efficient at helping you get your veggies in.
AG1 is also NSF-certified, so it’s safe for professional athletes. However, there are no flavor options and it has no sweeteners, so the flavor may be something to get used to compared to Legion.

People love the effects that it gives, saying it helps with bloating and even their skin, and they enjoy mixing it with whey protein powder. There are mixed reviews on the flavor, however.

Final Verdict of Our Legion Genesis Greens Review

All in all, there aren’t a lot of downsides to trying Genesis. It’s all-natural with high-quality ingredients, comes with a generous money-back guarantee, and tastes better than most similar products. However, it can get expensive with daily use.

  • There is no risk to try it for the first time!
  • Take advantage of bundling and other discount options if you’re on a budget
  • Sweetened with sugar alcohols, so do not take too much at once
