A Quick Look at Evlution Nutrition BCAA Energy
Evlution Nutrition, also known as EVL, is a sport nutrition supplement brand. Their product line is extensive and reads like a one-stop shop for fitness needs with categories for pre-workout supplements, whey protein powders, creatine products, vitamins, testosterone boosters, pump enhancers, and fat burners.
EVL categorizes their BCAA Energy supplement as a pre-workout, post-workout, and amino acid supplement. Indeed, it has a versatile ingredient list that contains branched-chain amino acids (BCAAs) and caffeine, making it a hybrid supplement of sorts.
What are BCAAs, you might ask? They’re the essential amino acids leucine, lysine, and valine, and they may help muscle growth and improve recovery. There’s evidence that taking BCAAs before exercise1 reduces post-workout soreness more than taking it after working out, so this, in combination with the caffeine, may make using this supplement as a pre-workout the best option.
However, EVL also offers BCAA Energy + Electrolytes, which is the same formula but has added minerals to support hydration and replace electrolytes lost in sweat.
Before You Buy
- BCAA Energy contains 5 g BCAAs per serving in a 2:1:1 ratio.
- This is a zero-calorie supplement, with 0 grams of carbs and sugar.

Is Evlution Nutrition BCAA Energy Worth It?
If you’re looking for a dietary supplement that can boost energy and provide recovery support, BCAA Energy might be a good fit.
It’s lower in caffeine than a lot of pre-workouts, making it a good choice for anyone sensitive to stimulants or who wants to start with a low-dose formula (We even named it on our best pre-workouts with BCAAs list). If you already have a pre-workout you love, this probably isn’t the right product for you.
Great for:
- Anyone new to pre-workout
- Individuals with a lower tolerance to caffeine
- Reducing post-workout muscle soreness
Not recommended for:
- Those who already have a favorite pre-workout
- Anyone who avoids artificial ingredients
- Athletes and competitors who need third-party testing

Experience Using Evlution Nutrition BCAA Energy
We turned to two GGR staffers, both who are somewhat sensitive to caffeine, to try out BCAA Energy in their daily routines. Both of our testers found BCAA Energy hits the sweet spot in terms of providing an energy boost without side effects.
Our senior director of content, Kate Meier, NASM-CPT, USAW-L1, CF-L1, tends to keep caffeine intake low. “I usually have one cup of coffee a day; much more than that and I feel miserable,” says Kate. “However, taking this BCAA with caffeine didn’t make me feel too energetic or jittery from too much caffeine.”
GGR’s head of content, Nicole Davis, CPT, PN1-NC, says she’s sensitive to most pre-workout ingredients, but also tolerated BCAA Energy without issue. “I was actually hoping for more of a pick-me-up for a workout,” says Nicole. “I still think this would be good as a midday boost.”
Price Per Serving
Each tub of BCAA Energy costs $23.99 and contains 30 servings, which is $0.80 per serving. Two of the ten flavors—Cherry Limeade and Fruit Punch— are available in 65 serving tubs and sell for $51.95, which is still 80 cents per serving.
RELATED: Are BCAAs Worth It?
Sometimes BCAA Energy is priced lower on Amazon, so shop around for the best price. Either way, under $1 per serving is a solid price point and earns this product 4 out of 5 stars for price.
Formulation
BCAA Energy contains the following active ingredients:
- BCAAs
- Beta-alanine
- L-alanine
- Taurine
- Natural Energizers (caffeine and green tea extract)
- Vitamin C as ascorbic acid 100% DV
- Vitamin B6 as pyridoxine HCl 588% DV
- Vitamin B12 as methylcobalamin 1250% DV
Each serving of BCAA Energy contains a total of 5 grams of BCAAs. It’s recommended to take at least 2 grams of BCAAs2 in a ratio of two parts leucine to one part isoleucine and one part valine, since leucine is the most important BCAA for muscle protein synthesis. BCAA Energy contains 2,500 milligrams of leucine and 1,250 milligrams each of isoleucine and valine per serving, which is the preferred 2:1:1 ratio.
Beta-alanine, L-alanine, and taurine are amino acids that may enhance exercise performance during intense workouts. Studies have found beta-alanine3 and taurine4 can increase muscular endurance and delay fatigue. A 2020 animal study5 found combining L-alanine with BCAAs increases the bioavailability of the BCAAs.
RELATED: What is Beta-Alanine?
BCAA Energy contains 110 milligrams of natural caffeine sourced from coffee beans and green tea extract. For comparison, there’s about 95 milligrams of caffeine6 in a cup of coffee.
The presence of artificial ingredients keeps this product from earning a perfect score. We rated it a 4 out of 5 for ingredients.
Taste and Solubility
BCAA Energy comes in 10 fruity flavors. Our testers, Kate and Nicole, tried Blue Raz and Furious Grape respectively. “Blue Raz has a fantastic taste,” says Kate. “I could literally drink this during my work day just for the taste and slight energy boost.”
Nicole thought the grape flavor could be stronger. “I was hoping the flavor would be more pronounced,” she said. “It’s not awesome, but it’s fine.”
Other customer reviews have noted some flavors seem to be punchier, while others come across more diluted. Of course, the flavor you like best comes down to personal preference and with so many flavors to choose from, you’re likely to find one you enjoy. Since the flavor can be hit or miss, we rate it a 4 out of 5.
Neither of our testers experienced any issues with mixing and solubility, so we give BCAA Energy a 5 out of 5 in that department.
Side Effects
Our testers didn’t experience any side effects, but the beta-alanine and caffeine in BCAA Energy could cause mild side effects in some people.
Beta-alanine can cause skin tingling7, called paraesthesia. This side effect is more common with higher doses than what’s found in this product.
If you’re used to consuming caffeine, you’re not likely to feel more than a burst of energy that’s comparable to drinking a cup of coffee with a single serving of BCAA Energy. If you get caffeine from other sources or you’re sensitive to caffeine, you may notice jitters, irritability, or trouble sleeping.
Since these potential side effects are mild and temporary, we rated this product a 5 out of 5 for side effects.
Third-Party Testing
Evlution is a popular sports nutrition supplement brand, but there’s no mention of third-party testing on their website or products. A lack of third-party testing doesn’t mean a supplement isn’t safe or effective, but we always prefer the extra peace of mind whenever possible. For this reason, we have to rate BCAA Energy a 2 out of 5 for third-party testing.

If you’re looking for a boost of electrolytes and some high-quality BCAAs, Xtend may be a good choice for you. Key ingredients include L-Leucine, L-Glutamine, L-Isoleucine, L-Valine, electrolyte blend, and citrulline malate.
BCAA Energy is our top pick for a BCAA pre-workout supplement, but how does it compare to some of our other preferred BCAA supplements? Our pick for best budget BCAA is XTEND BCAA, which we’ve also reviewed and earned a similar rating to BCAA Energy.
Both supplements come in a nice selection of fruity flavors and deliver BCAAs in a 2:1:1 ratio. XTEND contains more BCAAs overall, with 7 grams per serving versus 5 grams per serving in BCAA Energy.
Since XTEND does not contain energizing ingredients, it’s a good choice for anyone looking for just BCAAs. XTEND is also NSF and Informed Choice certified, making it a better choice for athletes who undergo regular substance testing.

A serving of BCAA Energy contains 110 milligrams of caffeine sourced from coffee beans and green tea extract. It’s comparable to a cup of coffee, which has approximately 95 milligrams of caffeine.
What are the benefits of BCAA Energy for workouts?

This boost can help motivate you to workout and enhance exercise performance and endurance.
