Product Summary

The Salomon Sense Ride 4 is a mixed-terrain trail running shoe. It has neutral foot support, regular cushion, and light foot protection. The men’s shoe weighs 290 grams and the women’s is 235 grams. Both shoes have an 8-millimeter midsole drop. The lugs on the outsole for traction are 4 millimeters deep.

Salomon recommends the Sense Ride 4 for walks, runs, and hikes on a wide variety of terrains. The Contagrip outsole uses the combination of a rubber compound and lug geometry to provide versatile and durable traction on wet, dry, loose, and hard-packed surfaces. The shoe uses a combination of an EndoFit internal sleeve and SensiFit midsole system to create a solid foothold and support your feet. The Optivibe foam cushioning combines cushion and rebound to decrease shock absorbed by your body and improve energy return. There is also a Profeel Film surrounding the shoe to help protect the shoe and your feet from sharp surfaces while you are out on trails. Finally, a Quicklace system with a pocket on the tongue to keep the excess laces out of your way.

Positive reviews of the Sense Ride 4 liked that it was low profile while still providing support. They also liked that it was light and had no break-in period. Both positive and negative reviews noted that the shoes run large, people recommending order a half size smaller than your usual size.

Longtime Sense Ride users thought this was their least favorite iteration of the shoe. People complained about the lacing system. They didn’t like that the laces went over the pocket for storing the laces, so it was difficult to stow away the laces. They also thought that the tongue and heel pull tab were uncomfortable and dug into their ankles. There was also a popping/clicking noise when they ran.
