The Nike Metcon 3's were the most popular training shoe ever released. To build upon that, the first images of the Nike Metcon 4's have been leaked and as expected, they appear to be quite similar to the 3's with some marked improvements.
The Nike Metcon 4's feature an outsole and last similar if not the exact same as the Nike Metcon 3's. This is quite normal for companies to only release new lasts on a two-year cycle due to the costs of creating new molds. Although the Metcon 4's don't appear to be very different from the 3's due to the outsole remaining the same, they do have changes.
The tentative Release Date for the Nike Metcon 4's is: December 2017
This release date should be around the same time as the Nike Metcon DSX Flyknit 2's.
As you can see, the biggest changes have taken place to the upper. In fact, the outsole is the exact same as the Nike Metcon 3's.
The upper features what appears to be a bit more durable mesh along with a protected toe. I hope they remain flexible like the 3's while increasing durability.
The bottom portion of the tongue has changed to a material that looks like it will provide a bit more breathability, although that was never an issue with the 3's. The laces, although something that few think about, remains the same as what was used on the 3's. They're a cheaper type of lace, but they may vary from what's released with the shoe.
The tongue appears to the be the same on the 4's as it was on the 3's, although I do hope they added more reinforcement because they did have a tendency to rip every once in a while.
The heel of the shoe has a completely different look that should allow for some unique colorways and customization and the heel clip appears to remain, something I'm happy to see. The stability on the sides of the heel is similar to the 3's and is also seen on the leaked images of the DSX Flyknit 2's.
Expect the price to remain around the $130 mark as there doesn't seem to be many big changes.
