Vertical storage is versatile in that it can be moved around frequently, whereas horizontal storage is typically mounted to a wall or other existing structures. Changing your mind with horizontal storage means patching drywall, using power tools, and usually more time than you intended. This piece just has to be picked up and moved.

While the piece is decently heavy at 37.5 pounds, Bells of Steel does advise to evenly spread barbells in a diagonal or opposing layout if all five slots are not filled. This is to avoid any risk of tipping. This is the major disadvantage of a five bar holder versus the more common nine or 10 bar holders.
