Rogue Ohio Deadlift Bar - Cerakote

The latest version of the Ohio Deadlift Bar introduces four new Cerakote color finishes, with your choice of a black, red, blue, or OD green shaft. All options also include the Rogue logo on the center of the shaft and black Cerakote sleeves. Like the original ODB, the Cerakote model is machined and assembled in Columbus, Ohio, and precision-engineered for the needs of the competitive deadlifter. The bar's 190,000 PSI steel shaft is designed with a comparatively thin diameter (27MM) and longer overall length (90.50" – just within most powerlifting federation standards). This combination creates a power bar that is both easier to grip and better equipped for producing maximum whip/flex when pulling. For many powerlifters, that greater flex means being able to pull from a higher point before the plates break off the floor, potentially increasing the amount of weight that can be lifted in the process. The Ohio Deadlift Bar's sleeves feature a quality snap ring construction–far superior to the cheaply produced bolt-and-pin style sleeves of some other brands. The powerlifting knurl marks on this bar are a bit deeper / more aggressive than our Ohio Power Bar, but machined in the same pattern. There is no center knurl. The new Ohio Deadlift Bar is finished using a polymer-ceramic composite coating called Cerakote, which has been popular for years in the gun industry for its remarkable durability in thin applications. This advanced finish can deliver superb abrasion/wear/corrosion resistance over time–100X that of standard black zinc–while also enabling much greater versatility in color choices and design. The Cerakote Deadlift Bar comes in four colorways–black, red, blue, and OD green–each paired with black sleeves and Rogue branding on the center of the shaft. This steel used for the Ohio Deadlift Bar is manufactured in the US and has proven to be one of the best steel variants for a competition power bar. Each barbell shaft is ground and polished prior to machining, enabling a consistent smooth surface. With this design, we also created a shaft with a thinner diameter (190,000 PSI) and longer length (90.50"), optimizing the bar's flex/whip for high-performance deadlifts. Every bar shaft is machined in Columbus, Ohio, with painstaking attention to detail. A snap ring construction and quality bronze bushings ensure a smooth, consistent performance. Rogue Fitness has updated their already outstanding Ohio Deadlift Bar by adding a Cerakote finish that will increase the overall health of the barbell.

Rogue Cerakote Ohio Deadlift Bar

Rogue Fitness is generally the popular choice when looking to add a barbell to round out any home or commercial gym, and for good reason. Rogue does not produce a barbell just to produce a barbell.

It is easy to see they put time and effort into any creation. From their barbells, to squat racks, to bumper plates. Rogue has a strong reputation of building equipment that is made to last, and the Rogue Cerakote Ohio Deadlift Bar is no exception.

Rogue Cerakote Ohio Deadlift Bar sleeve and knurling

The Rogue Cerakote Deadlift Bar is the definition of, if it’s not broken don’t fix it.

When comparing the original Ohio Deadlift Bar and the Ohio Deadlift Bar-Cerakote the only difference is in the name. Rogue didn’t need to go back to the drawing board to enhance the ODB, but simply add a Cerakote finish to increase resistance to corrosion and add some cool colors.

When investing into a Cerakote bar, like the Cerakote Ohio Deadlift Bar, you will find the corrosion resistance is made to withstand almost anything. When sprayed with a salt spray, Cerakote finished at the top of being the most corrosive resistant, even when compared to stainless steel.

After being sprayed, stainless steel began to show signs of rust after 24 hours, which mind you, is still a long time. However, the same salt spray that was used on the stainless steel finish was also used on the Cerakote and the Cerakote did not show signs of corrosive until 2,034 HOURS IN! When choosing a bar to begin your home gym with, tests like this should factor into your decisions.

The Cerakote Ohio Deadlift Bar comes in four different color ways, black, red, blue, and OD green. Each of these color ways are paired with a black Cerakote sleeve finish and with center Rogue branding.

Just as the original ODB, the barbell is manufactured in the United States in Columbus, Ohio and is manufactured with the competitive powerlifter in mind. The barbell weighs in at 20kg and is 27mm in diameter. The thinner diameter allows for a better grip and a whippier shaft.

Each ODB – Cerakote barbell shaft is ground and polished prior to machining, enabling a consistent smooth surface.

Another popular barbell in the powerlifting community is the Okie Deadlift Bar, you can find our full review on it here. When comparing the two, they both weigh in at 20 kg and 27mm in diameter. A big difference between the Rogue and the Okie is the tensile strength and knurling.

Rogue Fitness Ohio Deadlift Bar – Cerakote has a tensile strength of 190k, while the Okie has a 155k PSI tensile strength. The stronger the tensile, the less prone to bending it is. The knurling on the Okie Deadlift Bar is also extremely sharp, almost too sharp for most people.

Something to understand about the Cerakote Ohio Deadlift Bar is that the knurling won’t feel as sharp as the raw steel version does. If you want the sharpest knurl available, then the raw steel version will be your best bet, although expect it to patina over time.

The powerlifting knurl also means the marks are a little deeper and more aggressive than a typical Rogue Ohio Power Bar. Which makes sense with this being a deadlift specific barbell.

The bar length is 90.5″ which again, is nothing new with the updated ODP Cerakote. This is a half-inch shorter than the Okie Deadlift Bar, but both bars are still inside most powerlifting federation standards. The longer the bar, the more it will whip and therefore the easier it should be to deadlift as the weight will begin breaking at a higher height than a stiff bar.

The distance between sleeves on the Ohio Deadlift Bar – Cerakote is 56″ giving the loadable sleeves a length of 15.5 inches.

The Ohio Deadlift Bar – Cerakote sleeves feature a snap-ring construction, which has pretty much become the standard for most bars.

The snap-ring is a function that fits into a groove on the inside of the rotating sleeve. The snap-ring is like a circular spring; it compresses to fit inside the sleeve and then “snaps” back to its full diameter when it hits the groove. Once it has snapped into place, it is all but impossible for that ring to come out.

It’s important to remember, if you are looking to purchase your first barbell, we would suggest a different barbell such as a Rogue Ohio Power Bar that specializes in versatility more than just deadlifts.

BUT, if you are looking to add to your arsenal of barbells, the Rogue Ohio Deadlift Bar – Cerakote is the answer. With Rogue’s lifetime warranty and quality barbells, you can’t go wrong.

The only thing I would like to see with the updated ODB is a chrome sleeve option rather than all being black cerakote. A chrome sleeve won’t show the wear you put the barbell through as much as Cerakote in our experience.

Overall, the Rogue Ohio Deadlift Bar – Cerakoteis sure to be one of the best options when looking at deadlift specific barbells.
