A gym bag is absolutely essential for anyone who goes to the gym.
You have to have something that can transport your gear with you as well as various changes of clothes.
The problem however with most gym bags is they’re ugly.
Like really ugly.
I’ve reviewed the AER Duffel Pack, and I dubbed it pretty much the greatest backpack ever created.
Seriously, the materials and overall fit and finish of the bag was out of this world. There was very few if any changes I would make and if you’ve been reading this blog long enough, you know that’s pretty rare.
So, when I saw AER was coming out with a Duffel, I had to reach out for a review.
And today, here it is.
Pros: AER has taken the great features of the Duffel Pack and put them in a larger duffel bag that is designed for both the gym and office.
Cons: Only comes in one color, and for some could be a little large.
Bottom Line: This is the best duffel bag available. Seriously, everything from the pockets to the ventilation to the looks is on point. Bravo!
I like my gear.
I especially like when my gear not only functions well but also looks the part.
That means a few things:
- Minimal logos
- A lack of neon-splattered everywhere
- High-quality materials
- Recognizable and unique design
Based upon these qualifications, the AER Gym Duffel pretty much meets all of these qualifications.
For a majority of those looking for a gym bag, you’re going to want enough space to bring your gear, but not a bag that makes you look like you’re carrying a suitcase. You’re also going to want a bunch of pockets to hold all of the gear you bring that although is unnecessary is nice to have with you.
Trust me, I do the same thing.
The gym bag needs to be durable so it can take the beating you’re going to unleash on it. This is especially true if you’re going to lug it around with your gallon water bottle to every machine you’re working at.
It’s also true if you’re going to take it in and out of your car for work, the gym, as well as your home.
Finally, the bag needs to look the part in a majority of scenarios. Buying a big bulky gym bag with a Nike swoosh may be cool at the gym, but who wants to carry that into the office? A gym bag should be versatile, and the AER Gym Duffel is just that.
The AER Gym Duffel is a sweet looking bag.
Not because it features awesome standout colors, but because it looks as utilitarian as it is in function.
There are hardly any logos, in fact, there’s really just one on the side tag. The minimalistic look of the bag can be deceiving at first. You’d think that the bag may just be a standard bag with one big open pocket. However, you realize rather quickly that there is an insane amount of storage options.
The understated black on black on black looks good in and out of the gym, while the gray interior allows you to find items that could easily get lost if the interior was the same color as the exterior.
Whether using the bag as a sling over your shoulder or with the handles in your hand, the bag doesn’t appear to be oversized while still offering the storage needed.
It’s great when something appeals to the eye, but I’m much more a function over form kind of guy.
For instance, I have these dress shoes that were given to me as a gift that I think look pretty great. They’re from a boutique designer brand with all the posh that you’d expect from an expensive pair of dress shoes. The problem is they absolutely suck to wear. They’re uncomfortable, the heels too high, and they’re not even good-year welted.
Unfortunately, this happens quite a bit in the fitness industry. From the looks, a piece of equipment or apparel will look awesome. But when it comes time to actually use the product, it’s a complete fail. Kind of like these knee sleeves I reviewed.
The AER Gym Duffel does not fall into this category thankfully. AER has spent many hours I would assume choosing the materials and deciding how to construct the Duffel.
The exterior is a heavy-duty 1680D ballistic nylon that is durable, but not overly stiff.
The top of the gym bag features a ventilated fabric that allows your stuff to keep from getting overly rank.
One of my favorite features is the shoe pocket. ***Yes, this bag has a pocket specifically for shoes.***
If you’re anything like me, you’re an absolute shoe whore. Seriously, I review shoes more than just about every other category of fitness gear. AND, it’s not just because I like them, everybody else likes them too!
When I saw the Gym Duffel had a dedicated shoe pocket that was ventilated, I was kind of pumped. This is ideal for those that use both training shoes and weightlifting shoes, or for those who want to bring their workout shoes to the office.
The AER Gym Duffel is the perfect combination of show and go. It will look good inside and outside of the gym, while still being able to function for whatever purpose you need it.
I would like to see some different color options in the future for variety sake, although I really enjoy the look of the all black bag.
Also, I almost forgot to mention that the Duffel isn’t overly priced. Sitting at $165 on Huckberry.com, this bad boy is affordable enough for most.
